This is his third year in first grade and he's one of a number of our guys who are in that sweet spot I guess, starting to really understand what the NRL is about in their third year of footy. We were in it, we were going tit-for-tat, scores are level and then we come out and let the scoreboard dictate how we want to play. He's good in the air and he's strong out of his own end and he's really starting to believe how good he can be. At some points there we went down the field and we didn't play like we did in the first half. Taulagi was being bundled into touch by a Jackson Hastings cover tackle and was airborn when he somehow managed to flick a pass back inside for Scott Drinkwater to score. Cowboys winger Murray Taulagi produced the most extraordinary pass of the season in the final match of Magic Round to set up his team's first try.

Wests Tigers have suffered their first defeat at Magic Round, falling 36-12 to the North Queensland Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium.

Despite the loss, there were several strong individual performances for Wests Tigers across the park, with multiple players forced to play out-of-position. Inspired by the debut of Junior Tupou, Wests Tigers fought valiantly but were unable to overcome a Cowboys outfit brimming with confidence. Wests Tigers have suffered their first defeat at Magic Round, falling 36-12 to the North Queensland Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium.

Wests Tigers will sweat on scans on their playmaker's hamstring as injuries and points piled up in a big Cowboys win to round out Magic Round.

“He’s really skilful, understands the game really well and makes smart decisions out on that edge,” Payten said. “He’s really starting to believe how good he can be and he’s one of a number of our guys in that sweet spot… “Whether or not we go down on men I still think these boys are very capable of making sure points don’t rack up like they did,” Maguire said.
