Why is Friday the 13th unlucky? The superstition explained, where is ... (iNews)

The notion that Friday the 13th is somehow an unlucky date has persisted from centuries - thankfully it's only falling once in 2022.

While Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky date in UK and the US, the superstition is by no means universal across the world. Friday 17th rather than 13th is the day of bad luck in Italy, and it’s said that this comes from the number’s Roman numerals (XVII). Some claim the root of the Friday the 13th superstition lies in the story of Jesus’s last supper and crucifixion. Henry Sutherland Edwards’ 1869 biography of Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, who died on Friday 13th November, states that Rossini regarded Friday as an unlucky day and the 13th as an unlucky number. There are various theories as why Friday 13th is considered a particularly unlucky date, but both both the number 13 and the day of Friday have carried negative connotations throughout history. Of all the superstitions that endure in modern society, one of the most widely known is the old adage that Friday the 13th is somehow unlucky.

Friday the 13th origins and why it's the most feared day of the year (Scottish Daily Record)

Friday the 13th is a dreaded date on the calendar for many people across the world. It is widely considered to be a day of bad luck, with people avoiding ...

Richard Wiseman, professor at the University of Hertfordshire, opined that people who consider themselves unlucky are more likely to believe in related superstitions (like Friday the 13th) and that luck is a magical force which can ruin lives. The 13th day of the month falls on a Friday at least once per year, but can also occur up to three times per year. A study by the British Medical Journal in 1993 found that Friday the 13th is truly unlucky for some. Fear not, though, as Friday the 13th isn’t slated to occur three times in a single year until 2026. The origin of number 13’s unlucky nature can be linked back to Norse mythology. After the death of Balder, folklore historian Donald Dossey notes that the entire Earth was shrouded in darkness due to mourning and 13 was permanently associated with bad luck.

'Friday the 13th' – Here's What Victor Miller Can (and Might) Do With ... (Bloody Disgusting)

As most horror fans know by now, the film franchise has been held up for several years now in a legal battle between Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller ...

The argument continues to be that Miller wrote the screenplay as a “work-for-hire,” and therefore never should’ve been able to gain rights to the screenplay in the first place. For now, the two parties are still at odds with one another, and the only way for any progress to be made is for them to work something out. In other words, Miller only has young Jason Voorhees at his disposal, so he could theoretically work with filmmakers on a project involving Jason’s early years – before the mask. In other words, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the District Court’s previous order, rejecting the argument and concluding that “Miller was an independent contractor when he wrote the screenplay and is therefore entitled to authorship rights.” Summary judgement was awarded, therefore, to Miller. As most horror fans know by now, the film franchise has been held up for several years now in a legal battle between Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller and Friday the 13th director Sean Cunningham, with the rights currently split between them. But what – if anything – can Miller and his team do with what they currently own?

(CNN) It wasn't a shock when LeBron James showed up to a Lakers game on Halloween 2018 dressed as Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" horror films.

"It usually results in a negotiation and settlement" between both sides, he said. "Within the next couple years a number of iconic Hollywood movies could wind up in court," Moss said. "Sean made millions of dollars," Zerner said. Horror icon Stephen King dangled his own wish to write a new story from the perspective of Jason Voorhees himself. Will Jason come back in the theaters? "Miller now owns the copyright to his screenplay, including sequel rights, but Jason can't be portrayed as any older than in the first movie? "Do you do a new mask, like they often did before? "I love that my two passions intersect, copyright law and 'Friday the 13th'," Zerner said. That accessory would go on to define the killer's film legacy and play a key part in the case Zerner is now following. Cunningham says those rights still rest with him and the original investors. In fact, Mrs. Voorhees channeled Jason. And, of course, the first was all teed up for sequels." "Both sides are really dug into foxholes," Cunningham said.

Where to Watch All of the Friday the 13th Films (TV Guide)

This Friday the 13th, you can watch all the Friday the 13th movies, plus the franchise documentary, back-to-back on Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, ...

Most of the movie is Jason body-hopping as his spirit possesses others around Camp Crystal Lake. This was really designed as a prequel appetizer to a future film in the franchise, Freddy vs. One of cinema's most blatant lies in this movie's name, "Part IV" was not even close to the final chapter, even though it was once intended to be. This is the only Friday the 13th film released in 3D, which probably made the speargun killing look pretty cool. Your best bet is to get a subscription to AMC+, as it carries most of the Friday the 13th movies (but not all), while later films in the franchise are on other streaming services. The bad news is that although the Friday the 13th movies are streaming, they're all over the place and it can be hard to keep track of which movie is on what service. The first sequel was the first movie in which Jason Vorhees was actually the murderer.

Here Are 13 Gruesomely Excellent Friday the 13th Kills (Gizmodo Australia)

We’re going back to the beginning for this final entry, an iconic moment that pits shell-shocked Alice (Adrienne King) against Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) in a brutal machete fight that ends with one of horror’s most epic decapitations ever. Along the way he becomes a full-on cyborg, and there’s a virtual reality segment that allows him to revisit one of our, and presumably his, favourite Camp Crystal Lake moments (see: The New Blood above). Sure, it’s just a simulation, but the fan service is 100 per cent genuine. This is the entry where Jason meets maybe his most formidable foe (at least until Freddy Krueger entered the picture): telekinetic teenager Tina (Lar Park Lincoln). But the high point of the movie? Multiple counsellors get got in this first Friday sequel, but the death of Mark (Tom McBride) is probably the most shocking. The high body count in this film actually doesn’t come courtesy of Jason Voorhees; in A New Beginning, we follow an older Tommy Jarvis (John Shepherd) as he’s sent to a sort of psych hospital/summer camp for troubled kids to help process the events of The Final Chapter. There, a random character with revenge motivations unrelated to the Voorhees family takes up Jason’s mantle and continues his killing spree. He soon meets his own grisly fate when an arrow taken from the archery range pierces the mattress from below and emerges through his throat, courtesy of Jason Voorhees’ vengeful mother, Pamela (Betsy Palmer).
