The game is no longer slated for release on last-generation consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Warner Bros. announced Tuesday. The open-world action game is set in Gotham City, which no longer has its famous protector, Batman. In the game, Bruce Wayne has supposedly perished in a massive explosion, but in a message to his surviving comrades (Robin, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Batgirl), he tells them how to carry on in his absence. Gotham Knights is slated for release on Oct. 25, after being delayed out of 2021 last year.

A lot of questions for both this, and the four-player focused Suicide Squad as well, which are both diverging from the Arkham formula. I am curious how this will play as a solo player, rotating across the four heroes as opposed to having a bunch of friends in combat. Well, it’s finally starting to happen, and major AAA games are beginning to leave the last generation of consoles behind.

Through extensive training and rehab, she was able to recover physically and take back the mantle of Batgirl. This natural acrobatics kill translates to a fast and fluid fighting style that sees Nightwing “ping-pong” between opponents during a fight. Eventually, Grayson wanted to step out from behind Batman’s shadow and took on his own heroic role as Nightwing.
The long-awaited follow-up to Batman: Arkham Knight will only be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox X/S.
Inspired by the “ Court Of Owls” arc from the 2011 DC reboot of Batman comics, Gotham Knights eschews the chronology from the four previous Arkham games and Batman entirely, a shame considering some people think he’s the best Batman ever. Instead, the game features Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl, and Robin, or three Robins and a Batgirl, to the layperson. Gotham Knights is the much-anticipated follow-up to 2015's Batman Arkham Knight, even if it’s the beginning of a whole new series. The upcoming Bat-family game, Gotham Knights, will only be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox X/S despite previous announcements. The team at WB Montréal finally released some serious game-play footage for the first time since 2020. After seven years of no Batman games, WB Games Montréal has finally released 13-minutes of footage from a new one.

The trailer then ends on a cliff-hanger as Red Hood is captured by the Court of Owls. This next story mission on display takes place earlier on in the game as the gang discover the existence of the Court of Owls. Nightwing can be seen sneaking into the old Powers Club, a suspected hangout for the villainous group as we get our first look at stealth-based gameplay. It would be nice to see just how these characters now function as a unit, given their past grievances with both Batman and each other, which now seem to be on the mend. Soon after, we get our first look at Red Hood on the Batcycle, as he chases down a smuggling van filled with gang members. As Red Hood enters the fray, we get a brief look at his aerial traversal, as he uses ‘soul energy’ to leap about the sky on mystical platforms. Landing on a nearby rooftop, we get our first look at combat as Nightwing engages with members of a local crime gang, known as The Regulators. It’s immediately noticeable just how agile and acrobatic his fighting style is, as he slides about the environment, bouncing from enemy to enemy with ease and fluidity.
WB Games Montreal's newest DC title, Gotham Knights, really is a departure from the Arkham games we know and love.
All four heroes can drive on the streets on a motorcycle, which appears to move quite sluggishly and heavily – not what you want from a two-wheeler, usually. Alongside the new footage, we learned that Gotham Knights will only launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC – forgoing a release on the last-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, altoghether. Whilst that is good (it's always nice to have games that aren't constrained by old hardware), we'd have expected the footage on-show to be really impressive and flashy... Hm. That doesn't feel in-line with the Bat-family, really, but I suppose everyone needs a way to get around. And should you care about a Batman game that doesn't have Batman in it? In early May, we saw Red Hood and Nightwing take centre stage in a blowout new Gotham Knights gameplay trailer from from DC and WB Games Montreal. The video was our first proper look at the game in years, and really cleared up some questions we had about the title – but does it impress?

PS4 and Xbox One versions have been cut in order "to provide players with the best possible gameplay experience." The devs also note that "cross-play support is not planned at this time." Combat animations are looking stiff, and Red Hood's guns seem an odd fit for the melee-focused game.
Gotham Knights finally has a confirmed release date of October 25, but which edition should fans buy, and what do fans get for pre-ordering?
To top everything off, the Collector's Edition also comes with a certificate of authenticity, signed by Jim Lee himself. What sets the Deluxe Edition apart from the regular version of the game is that it comes packed with a range of cosmetics. Priced at an eye-watering $299.99, or $289.99 for the PC version, the Gotham Knights Collector's Edition gives fans plenty of bang for their buck, with a plethora of physical goodies to go alongside some cosmetics. Like the Standard Edition, the Deluxe Edition is also available as a physical disk, or digital download. If fans are just looking for the cheapest way to play the game, then the Standard Edition is the right choice. That said, those who purchase the Gotham Knights Deluxe Edition will get the Visionary Pack DLC that includes gear and cosmetics inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series. Gotham Knights' latest trailer has me pining for the old-school formula.
Before Gotham Knights, WB Montreal made 2013’s Arkham Origins, an excellent spin-off so underappreciated it didn’t even make it into 2019’s Batman: Arkham Collection. For all its flaws, Origins feels in hindsight like an admirable compromise between Arkham Asylum’s modest beginnings and some of the open-world excess of where it ended up. In some ways it feels unfortunate that Gotham Knights is hitting right at what seems like the tail-end of people’s patience with the recent trend of adding an RPG grind to every gameplay loop. By Arkham Knight, those worlds were also full of checklists ranging from memorable sidequests to retrieving errant drones, but they were also laid out in a way that felt slightly less overwhelming. WB Montreal, like many other studios, has been emphatic that Gotham Knights is not a live-service game. Yesterday, Gotham Knights showed off a dozen minutes of gameplay and my excitement started to fizzle. But I’m also increasingly skeptical of seeing these features creep into other game genres just to prolong the experience.
New Gotham Knights gameplay demo with Nightwing and Red Hood showcases new gear customization including crafting and references to classic suits.
While the aesthetic choices can be exciting, the amount of gear customization showcased cannot be overlooked. While most appeared as "Iconic Alpha" (which appeared to be the default choice of color), some variants were shown including "Chroma Blackout" and "Chroma Accent". These option gave their respective suits noticeably darker looks when compared to the predominantly blue (Nightwing) and red (Red Hood) color palettes of the other suits shown. Hearing of the Shinobi style brings up thoughts of the recent Batman Ninja movie suit, and these skins also see characters reimagined as shinobi from feudal Japan. While Batman as a ninja in feudal Japan, is certainly a bit ridiculous, it is indeed a fun homage to an obscure film. Year One is clearly referencing the eponymous comic line and while Nightwing's suit is not a one-for-one recreation of the classic costume, it does evoke inspiration from the comics. Here is everything that can be gathered about the upcoming gear system from what was seen in the Gotham Knights demo. The most striking thing seen in the very brief gameplay segment showcasing the new gear system is the visuals of the costumes themselves.
Gotham Knights' gameplay reveal showcased a lot of Nightwing's combat potential, fighting capabilities, movement, and stealth mechanics.
Nightwing will also have access to smoke bombs that can be seen in the workbench menu during the gameplay reveal. With Nightwing’s reveal showing so much, it is safe to say that future reveals could give fans a look at the other two heroes, Batgirl and Robin, or even shift the focus to the numerous villains who have probably gained more confidence following the death of Batman. Nightwing is equipped with a glider called The Flying Trapeze, that lets him glide from rooftop to rooftop, much like Batman’s cape in the Arkham series. Since Gotham Knights will focus on four members of the Bat-Family, each will have their own fighting style and abilities that will help them get around Gotham City and fight the Court of Owls. With Gotham Knights inching closer to its release, fans will undoubtedly be analyzing the gameplay to ascertain what hero would best suit their playing style. The recent Gotham Knights gameplay showed fans just what playing the game with two of the four characters would feel like, introducing certain combat, traversal, and stealth features that players will use.
