She needs to look at the current cabinet. “Our current sitting member doesn’t believe that people care about integrity in Parliament, and I think she needs to look at her own backyard. She moved to Homebush in 2019. The Herald article reported Sitou was one of 12 candidates touted as a possibility to replace Cabramatta Labor MP Nick Lalich if he retired from State Parliament while undergoing medical treatment. Liberal MP Fiona Martin confuses Labor candidate Sally Sitou for ... (TDPel Media)

A Liberal MP has appeared to confuse her rival Labor candidate with another Asian-Australian politician, sparking calls for her to apologise. Liberal.

Ms Sitou was announced as the candidate for Reid in October 2021, while Ms Keneally was confirmed as the candidate for Fowler in September. Dr Martin told SBS News she was ‘referring to media reports that Ms Sitou was in the running for the state seat of Cabramatta in 2018’. The back and forth continued with Ms Sitou pointing out her Liberal rival now lives outside the Reid electorate while she lives in Homebush. The publication reported in June, 2018 that Ms Sitou was among a dozen people touted as a possible candidate for the seat of Cabramatta but she never ran. Earlier in the debate Dr Martin asked where Ms Sitou lived. But things came to an embarrassing halt when Dr Martin accused Ms Sitou of contesting the seat of Reid because she’d been ‘kicked out’ of Fowler by Kristina Keneally.

A former Australian of the Year and mental health advocate says Liberal MP Fiona Martin's campaign has selectively quoted him in a re-election endorsement ...

Earlier this year, I asked Pat for words of endorsement that he had kindly provided, and unfortunately there was a misunderstanding about how those words would be used. Dr Martin, in a statement to the ABC, said she had spoke to Professor McGorry and would remove the advertising. "Dear Fiona, I wanted to thank you for your committed and effective advocacy for investment and reform in mental health care," the ad read over an image of Professor McGorry. Professor McGorry said he sent Dr Martin an email in March, before the election was called to thank her for chairing a parliamentary inquiry into mental health which was tabled at the end of last year. Patrick McGorry, the executive director of Orygen and professor of youth mental health at the University of Melbourne, has asked the Member for Reid to take down a digital ad in which he was featured. "This was done without my knowledge and the authorisation and I've asked her to remove that from her election material."
