All Australian schools to sit NAPLAN online for the first time (The Sydney Morning Herald)

More than 1 million students will sit NAPLAN tests this week – and for the first time, all except one must be completed online.

Online NAPLAN automatically adapts to a student’s test performance and asks questions that match their achievement level. Most NSW public and Catholic schools have already transitioned to computer-based assessments. “The tailored testing means students are given questions that are better suited to their abilities, so they can show what they know and can do,” he said.

As NAPLAN begins, experts voice concerns (The Educator Online)

NAPLAN has become a controversial part of Australian school life, for teachers and parents. Here's what the experts think.

“Despite AERO calling for students to write for meaningful audiences and purposes, NAPLAN writing is “fake” writing directed to no audience and for no real purpose. Yet further recommendations are in direct conflict with the writing NAPLAN requires,” Dr McKnight said. Some have even called for the test to be scrapped altogether.
