Dawson desired 'unfettered relationship' with younger woman ... (The Sydney Morning Herald)

The murder trial of former Newtown Jets rugby league player and teacher Chris Dawson has begun. He is accused of killing his wife Lynette Dawson in 1982.

“He told her ... Lynette was gone, and she wouldn’t be coming back,” Everson said. In early January 1982, Dawson allegedly “begged” the woman to call him every day while she was on holiday at South West Rocks with friends. “The Crown alleges that the accused asked [him] if he knew someone who could get rid of his wife,” Everson said. He said in 1975, Dawson had travelled to the Gold Coast for an end-of-season holiday with his Newtown Jets rugby league team. The Crown alleges Dawson had told the female student, during a visit to a venue that will be alleged in court to fit the description of the Newtown Jets clubhouse in Marrickville, that he had “thought about getting a hitman to get rid of his wife but decided against it because innocent people would be hurt”. Chris Dawson was motivated to kill his wife Lynette Dawson four decades ago because of his wish to have an “unfettered relationship” with a younger woman, and he had thought about using a hitman, a Sydney court has been told.
