Feds to grill LNP candidate over address (NEWS.com.au)

A Queensland Liberal National Party candidate could be investigated by Australian Federal Police after allegedly lying about where he was living.

The AEC also said it has referred this matter to the AFP for investigation. But on Sunday, the Commission said “there is concern” the information on his enrolment and nomination forms is “false”. The publication said Mr Lobo has been living in the neighbouring electorate of Brisbane, rather than the address he provided in Lilley to the AEC, a property in Everton Park.

In a short statement provided to 9News.com.au, Lobo said the delay in him moving in to the property was due to the timing of his lease. "The AEC has referred this matter to the AFP for investigation." The AEC said Lobo was declared as a candidate on Friday April 22 for the Liberal National Party of Queensland in the Division of Lilley.

Electoral commission refers Coalition candidate to federal police (The Sydney Morning Herald)

The LNP challenger for Labor's most marginal Queensland seat has been referred to police over concerns of possible electoral fraud.

“The ballot papers have already been printed with this candidate’s name and party affiliation on them. Late last month, Liberal candidate for the Victorian seat of Isaac Robbie Beaton admitted to living more than 20 kilometres away from the address he told the AEC was his. “Following Mr Lobo’s candidate nomination for the 2022 federal election, we have reviewed the declarations made on Mr Lobo’s enrolment and nomination forms,” the AEC said in a statement.

'Busy' Brisbane LNP candidate Vivian Lobo faces police probe (Canberra Weekly)

Police will investigate an LNP candidate in the federal election over suspicions he has not been living at his registered address.

Not standing Mr Lobo down would be another blow to “a government whose integrity is already in tatters” and that has failed to deliver on a federal anti-corruption commission it promised at the last election, he added. “This is an extremely serious allegation to emerge in relation to a candidate in the middle of an election campaign,” he said. A review of his enrolment and candidate nomination forms prompted the referral to the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Electoral Commission said on Sunday.
