Heat vs. 76ers score: Miami overpowers Joel Embiid-less ... (CBSSports.com)

The Sixers hung tight for much of the game without Embiid, who's out with a concussion and fractured orbital bone.

They were in this game for most of the first three quarters. In Game 1 of the Heat, Harden struggled to just 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting with five assists in the loss. James Harden's 22-point, 15-assist outing in Game 6 of Philly's first-round series win over the Raptors was so encouraging. That decision paid off as the Heat held the 76ers to just 92 points. Duncan Robinson has slowly been falling out of favor in Miami throughout the end of the season. The Sixers are down six when he is reinserted. - For reasons that remain unclear, Rivers starts the second half with Jordan on the floor. The Sixers win it by nine, taking a 51-50 lead into the second half. The Miami Heat strike first against the Philadelphia 76ers with a 106-92 Game 1 win. - When Reed is removed, Philly has cut the lead to five. So, in essence, Rivers not only blew Game 1 by starting Jordan, but he's actively laying the groundwork to blow Game 2 as well. Embiid, who suffered an orbital fracture and mild concussion in Game 6 against Toronto, is out indefinitely though there's optimism he can return for Game 3 when the series shifts back to Philadelphia. The Sixers are now 6-9 without their big man this season.

Tough to say how much of this one will carry over to the rest of the series if and when both teams get whole, but tonight it was the 76ers spending the evening looking for answers. - Additionally, the teams enter this postseason having faced each other just two times during the playoffs with Miami winning the 2011 First Round (4-1) and the Sixers winning the 2018 First Round (4-1). - The HEAT and 76ers met four times this regular season with the teams splitting the series, 2-2.

Miami has a 1-0 lead over Philadelphia in the series.

If Harden is able to elevate his game a bit, and some of Philadelphia's shooters knock down some shots -- something they didn't do much of in Game 1 -- the Sixers could tie the series up before it heads to Philadelphia for Games 3 and 4. Miami was able to win without Lowry in Game 1, and they'll look to duplicate that success in the second game. After dropping Game 1 to the Miami Heat, the Philadelphia 76ers will look to bounce back and even up in the series in Game 2 on Wednesday night.

He may return later in the series, but he definitely won't be available early on, and it will be up to the rest of Philadelphia's roster to step up. Specifically, James Harden will be expected to carry a much larger load on the offensive end, and it will be interesting to see how he handles that task. With the possibility that Embiid returns later in the series, the Heat won't want to waste an opportunity to secure a win while he's on the sideline. Heat: The Heat will have to overcome Kyle Lowry's absence in this game. After taking care of business against their respective opponents in the first round, the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers will square off against each other in the Eastern Conference semifinals for a chance to advance to the conference finals. The Heat took down the Atlanta Hawks in five games in the first round, while the Sixers dispatched the Toronto Raptors in six games.

While I have concerns about the 76ers ability to slow down the Heat offensively, I think they can score enough to make this a close game. Most notably, the 76ers have the ability to go small and place four shooters around James Harden. The Heat give up a ton of 3s, ranking dead last in opponent frequency of 3-point field goal attempts (41.9 percent). Much of this handicap requires the assumption of rational coaching, which is tough when Doc Rivers is the head coach.

For now, the Sixers will run their offense through the ten-time All-Star James Harden and utilize the next-man-up mentality for the first two games on the road. While Embiid will have to get surgery at some point during the offseason, he made it clear he didn't intend to miss any playoff games. Going into Game 1 of the second round, both teams will miss key stars.

Heat vs. 76ers series preview: Can Miami capitalize on Embiid's ... (Sportsnet.ca)

Philly managed to hold him to 1-of-11 shooting in one of those games, so keeping Butler at bay will help the Sixers stay alive. Miami is a versatile team offensively, with multiple shooters who can also score from beyond the three-point arc, so Erik Spoelstra's schemes from half-court that will force Philly to play tougher defence will be another area to exploit in order to take the series. Maxey has been filling that void for Philly a bit, but they need a more complete team effort in order to pull out a win. That ability is why Harris will likely draw the Butler assignment as Sixers head coach Doc Rivers tries to steal at least one win in South Beach. But he'll also be tasked with multiple defensive pairings due to Miami's ability to score. Tobias Harris. While what Butler does against his old team will be the key to a lot of Miami's success, the same can be said for Harris against the Heat — even if it doesn't look like it on the scoresheet. The Mavericks are in the second round for the first time since Dirk Nowitzki was their star. But both Embiid and Harden were sidelined in one of the Sixers' wins over Miami during the regular season, so being able to adapt to injuries will make or break Philadelphia against Miami. Even with their starters injured there is no shortage of talent on the Heat roster, which helped them secure the first-place seed in the East and a smooth ride to the conference semifinals. Harris was tasked with playing one of Toronto's best players, Pascal Siakam, and playing hard defence while still contributing on the offensive front, whether it be hitting jumpers when needed or his efficiency in transition. Whether you like him or not, it's easy to see how much Embiid impacts a game, and the Sixers will have to adjust accordingly. Finally getting to see Victor Oladipo on the floor (as well as Kyle Lowry's impact) has been huge on top of solidified stars like Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. The Suns are coming off a wake-up call in Round 1.

Sixers vs. Heat: Miami proves too much for Philly to handle in Game 1 (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

After surviving a scare against the Raptors, the Joel Embiid-less Sixers take on the Heat in Round 2.

The Sixers need to split the first two games in Florida, and that means winning Game 1. The rest of the team carried him in the other games. He had the best offensive line in the NFL, and maybe the best in team history. I followed that up with Larry Brown. I followed that up with Pat Riley. And I go to San Antonio and [Gregg Popovich] is in the front office. Reed is now seeing those extra hours in the gym transferring to game action at the season’s most critical juncture. According to StatMuse, the Sixers are just 6-8 (.429) without Joel Embiid this season, while they were 45-23 (.662) with the big man. They know the same of Paul Millsap. They know that Paul Reed’s energy and athleticism and aggression are assets. Lowry is out of Game 1 with a hamstring injury while Embiid will likely miss Games 1 and 2 for an orbital fracture. Embiid is expected to miss at least the first two games of the series with an orbital fracture near his right eye and a concussion. But the Sixers don’t expect to simply relinquish two games in Miami because of Embiid’s absence. Surprisingly, after not playing in two weeks, in the first four minutes against the Heat, DeAndre Jordan, starting in place of Embiid, has allowed Bam Adebayo to score six points, picked up an offensive foul, and dropped a pass out of bounds. Miami leads, 80-72, with 12 minutes left to play in this one, and it’s clear the Sixers are feeling the absence of Joel Embiid, as they’re being out-rebounded by the Heat, 37-24, including 13-4 on the offensive end.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Miami Heat: Injury Reports, Starting 5s ... (Sportskeeda)

The Miami Heat will host the Philadelphia 76ers at the FTX Arena in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Monday night.

The Heat have a little less to worry about going into Game 1, and they will look to capitalize. Embiid led the 76ers on both ends of the floor in the Raptors series by putting up strong performances. Danny Green and Tobias Harris will fill the forward positions, with Paul Reed likely to step in for Embiid in the center position. Power Forward – P.J. Tucker Small Forward – Jimmy Butler Power Forward – Tobias Harris Joel Embiid was the team’s leader in the series, averaging a double-double with 26.2 points and 11.3 rebounds. Shooting Guard – Tyrese Maxey James Harden also recorded a double-double in the series, with 19 points and 10.2 assists. Point Guard – James Harden Tyler Herro and Markieff Morris are listed as questionable, with both of them suffering from respiratory illnesses. They finished with a 4-1 series score.

He was 8 for 10 from the floor, 8 for 8 from the line. Heat guard Duncan Robinson, who led Miami in games played for a third consecutive regular season, didn't appear in Game 1.
