Everton v Chelsea: Premier League – live! (The Guardian)

Minute-by-minute report: Can Frank Lampard boost Everton's survival hopes with victory over his former club? Join John Brewin to find out.

We’ve had a while to get used to the idea, yet it’s still hard to believe that Everton might be relegated. If Everton do drop into the Championship it will be the most shocking relegation in English football since Spurs in 1976-77. There’s an atmosphere of bristling defiance at Goodison Park, and you’d expect a ferocious start from the home side. “Hello from Pittsburgh!” writes Eric Peterson. “I’m a former sports radio announcer, so I’m a fan of not just the games but its many elite announcers. They can’t think like that today, even though Chelsea is literally the third toughest fixture they could face. For people of my age it’s not unusual to see Leeds, Newcastle or even Chelsea and Manchester City playing in the second tier. A week ago they went to Liverpool knowing that, all things being equal, they would lose. Most of us instinctively felt they belonged to a small group of clubs who were if not too good to go down then certainly too big to go down. Quality $hithousery from the Toffees’ fans.” Chelsea are unhappy because Havertz was fouled by Delph on the edge of the area just before that, but the referee Kevin Friend didn’t give the free-kik. 4 min Actually, Gordon and Gray are switching wings all the time. 8 min Mount whips a long-range shot just over the bar.

Everton vs Chelsea LIVE - score and goal updates (Liverpool Echo)

Everton team news, line-ups, commentary stream, TV channel, kick off time, score, goals and live updates against Chelsea.

In the aftermath Mount shoved someone and has picked up a yellow card and most of the players are in the middle of the pitch. It wasn’t the fight that let them down, it was the quality. That’s what did for them at Anfield in the end. Mount, Havertz and Rudiger all playing on the edge here. Crowd back up as Everton break. Then Rudiger finds himself at the back post and Pickford throws himself across the goal and somehow blocks the goalbound shot. Rudiger loses the ball to Richarlison in the corner and there is a clear vulnerability for Everton to exploit here. Stay with us as we build up to today's 2pm kick-off and instant reaction to Everton's team news. But Pickford scrambles back to somehow paw it clear. Lukaku goes out to warm up and claps the crowd, he's met with a mix of applause and boos in response. Similarly to his midfield partner he's putting in a lot of work in the centre, and perhaps that's justified his inclusion in the side today. Delph now in the book for a late tackle on Mount. There is a bit of bite in this game and with five yellows already I wouldn’t be surprised to see a red.

Richarlison boosts Everton's survival hopes with winner against ... (The Guardian)

Richarlison's 46th-minute goal brought Everton a fourth successive Premier League win over Chelsea at Goodison Park in what was a must-win fixture given ...

The intent was there from Gordon, Richarlison and Demarai Gray but not the support of defensive-minded teammates to unsettle Thiago Silva or Antonio Rüdiger. Something had to give for Everton to claim the goal they desperately needed. A Chelsea response was inevitable and Pickford performed heroics to keep them at bay when it came. Everton’s crucial moment stemmed from a throw-in by Alex Iwobi a minute after the restart. Jorginho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek regularly passed through midfield and yet, for all the space and promising positions that Mason Mount found, Pickford was rarely troubled in the first half. The question was how those with the greatest influence on the club’s Premier League status would respond. But Frank Lampard’s team could take it and Everton’s refusal to go quietly ensured they remain in charge of their precious, precarious Premier League destiny.

However, they failed to really click going forward and didn't muster a single shot on target in the first half. Jordan is such a great lad, he is England's number one and that is the reason why.

The Chelsea head coach watched his side suffer a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park this afternoon.

"I would like you to ask me the question at the next press conference. "We have to take care of ourselves. If you run behind against an opponent like this, in this atmosphere and install emotion and belief in a stadium like this and the opponent's team, you struggle." "For me, this is more like the game against West Ham. The opponent defends deep, we struggled to find space in the first half, but against West Ham, we had a clean sheet and played without any big mistakes. "If there is something I can do, I will try it, but if I knew about it, I would have done it before. That's why we struggle to have results."

Chelsea player ratings vs Everton: Azpilicueta costly, Werner poor ... (Football.London)

Frank Lampard gets the crucial three points against former side Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel's side struggle to beat Jordan Pickford.

The German's impact on the game was very little. He hit both posts, in a really unfortunate fashion, in the second-half. Rudiger couldn't be his typical aggressive self after that, but equally, he did nothing wrong on the right side of the back three. His distribution was tidy enough, but overall, it was a relatively quiet game for the Senegalese shot-stopper. Chelsea applied pressure to the Everton goal not long after that, with Mason Mount seeing his strike hit both posts, while Antonio Rudiger and Azpilicueta were both denied by Jordan Pickford. When Everton and Chelsea went head-to-head on Sunday afternoon at a wet Goodison Park, there was a sense of tension around the stadium.

Chelsea boilover rocks relegation fight; battle 'no one could have imagined': PL Wrap.

Mason Mount’s shot came back off the inside of one post onto another before Pickford sprinted across his line to repel Azpilcueta’s follow-up effort. But Everton’s far greater need for the points shone through. Son scored a third in the 79th minute to kill the game, curling an unstoppable effort into the top corner for his 19th Premier League goal of the season before a late consolation for Kelechi Iheanacho. West Ham had one eye on the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek, but David Moyes named a strong side and was rewarded with an equaliser before half-time from Jarrod Bowen. But they needed Jordan Pickford to show why he is England number one with a series of stunning saves to get over the line. Frank Lampard’s men remain in the bottom three, but narrow the gap on both Burnley and Leeds to two points with a game in hand to come.
