Baalke has drafted eight defensive linemen on Day Three of the draft, including three in the seventh round. - Baalke also seems to value the safety position early. Sixth round: wide receiver (3), safety (2), center (1), linebacker (1), cornerback (1), guard (1), quarterback (1), running back (1), Fourth round: running back (3), guard (1), wide receiver (3), cornerback (2), tight end (1) defensive end (1), defensive tackle (1) Second round: quarterback (1), running back (2), defensive end (1), tight end (1), safety (1), cornerback (1), tackle (1) - Pederson likes to draft defensive lineman on Day Three of the draft. Note: Throughout this article, positions for each pick are listed below, but individual player names are not. Fourth round: wide receiver (1), running back (1), cornerback (1), defensive end (2), safety (1), guard (1) Of course, with each franchise, there are multiple people with input into a draft pick and Pederson and Baalke were likely not the only person in their respective rooms making the pick in any given year. But with that in mind, let’s examine the data and see if there are any particular positions the decision-makers have favored not just in the first round, but through all seven rounds of past drafts. By the end of Thursday night, that question will finally be answered. The 2022 NFL Draft begins tonight, Thursday April 28 at 8 p.m., and runs through Saturday, April 30.

Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze admitted he has "no clue on what's really gonna happen tonight" in regard to which team selects QB Malik Willis.
The tide of these evaluations and debates will play a pivotal role in the Cowboys' moves tonight. - One route that could see the Panthers selecting a quarterback involves acquiring a Day 2 pick. The 2022 crop of quarterbacks, as well as the position at which teams are willing to bite, looms over the draft as one of the big question marks. Cornerback and wide receiver stand out as positions of need, but Palmer went as far as to identify Philadelphia's primary target: Oregon pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. "He is a freak on film," Palmer said. "In the right place, he can come in and play," Freeze said. Freeze told NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano that the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks have maintained the most contact.

But to Jay Kornegay, the vice president of the Westgate SuperBook, one of the largest sports books in Las Vegas, the draft is likely to be a money loser. Not everyone in Las Vegas is happy that the N.F.L. draft is coming to town. The Rams are one of eight teams without a first-round pick in this year’s draft — which will be a record if all eight of those teams do not trade back into the round. Most of the Las Vegas sports books posted their odds only this week. The Miami Dolphins, who sent five draft picks to Kansas City for wide receiver Tyreek Hill — including three picks in this year’s draft — currently have just four selections. Our team in Vegas will have it covered, and I will be watching.— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) North Carolina State offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu has a white suit with a green and white lapel that resembles the Nigerian flag. The Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles have 10 picks apiece. But they are likely to focus on the offensive and defensive lines and maybe look for a wide receiver. The time for speculation and mock drafts is over: The 2022 N.F.L. draft gets underway in Las Vegas on Thursday at 8 p.m., Eastern time. “I completely support everyone determining what’s best for their individual circumstance and recognize the value of vaccines,” he wrote. The Jets enter Thursday with five picks in the first three rounds, including Nos. 4 and 10.

Christian Barmore, the team’s second-round pick, is as exciting and explosive a young interior rusher as anywhere in the league. First round cornerback Pat Surtain II is a star in the making, who ended his rookie year with four interceptions and 14 passes deflected. Since the Bengals may have discovered a generational kicker in the draft last year, it feels like a punter is now due. The Kansas City Chiefs are tied for the most draft picks this year with 12 and need to make a few of them count. Since the Bengals may have discovered a generational kicker in the draft last year, it feels like a punter is now due. Marcus Jones, cornerback, Houston. The cornerback out of Houston has all the athleticism and instincts to make an impact as a slot defender. He plays in a style that fits with where the NFL is at and where it’s heading. If the Panthers take a QB at No 6, Pickett is the most pro-ready of the options. Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh. Pickett is far from a sure thing but has a lot in common with Joe Burrow. He’s dynamic in the pocket, athletic, and mobile. Aidan Hutchinson, edge, Michigan. There’s a reason the Jags have the No 1 overall selection and are perennially picking in the top 10: they need a boatload of help. It’s an unsexy draft class that’s for sure: the most talented players are edge rushers and offensive line types, not guys likely to transform the course of a franchise. And a reminder that 2017 was also supposed to be a “weak quarterback class.” That’s the year Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson were drafted.

In the run game, he doesn't roll his hips at the point of attack, but stays on his feet and flashes upper torque to turn and dump defenders. He also has the ability to grab and control the wrist of his opponent. He likes to cradle-catch balls on his frame, which leads to some drops, but he flashes the ability to high point and finish. Against the run, his burst and angles to the ball are highly impressive, but he will go low and miss a few tackles. He has the ability to layer the ball accurately in the intermediate area of the field and he throws a beautiful, lofting deep ball. The dip/rip move is his bread and butter, but he needs to add to his arsenal. He gives up separation out of the break, but he has the ability to recover and locate the ball in the air. He has a quick release and he can really power the ball outside the numbers and down the field. He is fluid and fast in everything he does on the field. He has the fluidity to match up in man coverage underneath and he’s a dynamic blitzer. He has some pop out of his plant and he can find and play the ball. Against the pass, he has the athleticism to match up with RBs and TEs underneath.

Aidan Hutchinson, edge, Michigan. There’s a reason the Jags have the No 1 overall selection and are perennially picking in the top 10: they need a boatload of help. That feels like the 2022 NFL Draft in a nutshell. There are 50 players this year worthy of going in the first round. Obviously, the NFL wanted to show off the fact that they have a team in Las Vegas now, what with the former Oakland Raiders playing there. Usually, we’re so used to a consensus number one that it’s annoying to wait for teams to run the clock out before making their long-predetermined selection. Apparently, they have constructed a red carpet stage over the fountains at the Bellagio. Also, let’s face it, they also wanted an excuse to hang out in Vegas for a week. If I make it through the eight picks without a team going out of its way to pick a player I have nothing on, I’ll count today as a success. On the other hand, King also sort of casually mentions at the end that he had just 9.5 career sacks in 29 games, which isn’t super-great compared to the competition. In the process, he ran away with Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors and the Ted Hendricks Award for best defensive end. That’s five straight picks without an offensive player being selected, which is basically the story of this first round in a nutshell.
Follow along for every trade involving Day 1 picks in the 2022 NFL draft. Which teams made moves for first-rounders?
The Dolphins traded this year's first-round pick to the Chiefs for receiver Tyreek Hill. The 49ers used the 2021 pick they received in the trade to draft quarterback Trey Lance. The Chiefs sent the No. 29 pick to the Patriots for the No. 21 pick, which they used to draft Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie. The Bears traded up from No. 20 to No. 11 in 2021, giving the Giants the No. 20 pick and a fifth-rounder in 2021 (No. 164) along with a first (No. 7) and fourth-round pick (No. 112) this year. The Lions traded the No. 32 pick to the Vikings, then drafted Alabama receiver Jameson Williams. The Eagles traded the No. 15 pick to the Texans for the No. 13 pick, then drafted Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis. The pick was traded from the Saints to the Commanders on Thursday. The Ravens moved back into the first round, sending wide receiver Marquise Brown -- their first-round pick in 2019 -- to the Cardinals for Arizona's first-round pick (No. 23) and a fourth-rounder (No. 100). Brown was the No. 25 pick for the Ravens in 2019 and caught 91 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns for Baltimore last season. The Eagles used the No. 13 pick to draft Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis. The Texans used the No. 15 pick on Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green. The Seahawks used the No. 9 pick on Mississippi State tackle Charles Cross. The first-round pick was originally traded to the Dolphins from the San Francisco 49ers last year as part of the Trey Lance trade. The Commanders used the No. 16 pick on Penn State receiver Jahan Dotson. The Lions originally acquired the No. 32 pick from the Los Angeles Rams in the Matthew Stafford trade last year. The Titans used the No. 18 pick on Arkansas receiver Treylon Burks.
No player on offense went in the opening five picks for the first time in 31 years as the defensive side dominated the early first round of the NFL draft.
But Pickett fell to the Steelers, which sure seems like a comfortable fit for both player and team. “My mom cried the second I picked the phone up,” Ekwonu said. You know, Ja’Marr Chase, they change offenses, and I’m happy that receivers are starting to get that love.” Another Georgia standout, defensive tackle Jordan Davis, was taken by Philadelphia at 13 after yet another deal, getting matters back to the defensive side. When teams got around to the other side of the ball, they couldn’t stop. “Just being a hard worker.” Hutchinson, a sack-master whose consistency and relentlessness helped the Wolverines to their first College Football Playoff, is staying home as a pro. “I’m definitely prepared for it, being the No 1 pick,” Walker said. “I mean it’s just two big dudes out there on the perimeter,” London said. Gardner, of Cincinnati, was a major reason the Bearcats broke through into the College Football Playoff last season. I would take him at No 1 and not even blink.” It was the first time in 31 years that no player on offense went in the opening five picks.
The 2022 NFL Draft was forecast to be the “craziest draft in 30 years” — and it delivered on the hype.

He is their ideal type of interior blocking prospect with his versatility tied to balanced strength and agility and fills a considerable need with Ted Karras and Shaq Mason no longer on the roster. Wyatt slipped a little with the Cardinals not picking, but Green Bay had a need to upgrade around Kenny Clark in its three-man front. The Cowboys took a late-rising player vs. Elam was worthy of a late first-rounder or early second-rounder, so this isn’t really too much of a reach. going for a wide receiver or pass rusher, but they liked McDuffie as their replacement for Chavarius Ward to make this move. Penning has a mean and nasty streak along with his athletic upside in a sturdy frame, making him the ideal bookend for Ryan Ramczyk in front of Winston. With the Olave pick earlier, the Saints are committed to better downfield pocket passing. Johnson does a little bit of everything well with his all-around skill set, featuring his natural agility and power. The Commanders took a circuitous route to getting their deep threat complement to Terry McLaurin, knowing Carson Wentz operates best when having that type of player outside. Davis had a late boost up the board as he got more attention for his sometimes explosive interior pass rush. Look for Moore to slide into the slot while Davis acts like more of a big possession body and Wilson becomes the primary field-stretcher for his second-year QB. The Falcons jumping on London made this a no-brainer. Gardner is the best corner in the draft and the Jets didn’t want to take a chance on him still being there at No. 10, given the crosstown Giants had heavy interest behind them. It’s a true boom-or-bust selection for Nick Caserio.

Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina (6-0, 218 pounds)Howell is a smart, seasoned and accurate pocket passer. 59. David Bell, WR, Purdue (6-0, 212 pounds)Bell has a rare blend of physicality and speed for the position. 79. Channing Tindall, LB, Georgia (6-2, 230 pounds)Tindall flanked his teammate Dean well with his active, speedy playmaking. 65. Drake Jackson, EDGE, USC (6-3, 254 pounds)Jackson is another agile and versatile outside defender in this class. 53. Perrion Winfrey, DT, Oklahoma (6-4, 292 pounds)Winfrey offers good length and powerful moves. 41. Jalen Pitre, S/CB, Baylor (5-11, 198 pounds)Pitre is a hybrid slot defensive back with sure tackling and good on-ball coverage skills. His raw skills give him a lot of intrigue and upside. He has top-flight athleticism and the strong arm to make every throw. That points to him playing inside well in the NFL. There are still 230 picks left in the draft, so there is plenty of time for these players to be drafted.
If a prospect is considered a great pick the day of the draft, but doesn't work out in the long run, that's a completely different evaluation of his new team's ...
Analysis: San Francisco gave up its 2022 first-round pick to Miami last year when moving up for quarterback Trey Lance. With Lance making just two starts as a rookie, I'm giving the 49ers an average grade for now. Roseman turned Philly's second first-round pick ( No. 18) into former Titans receiver A.J. Brown, whom they immediately gave a four-year extension worth $100 million with $57 million guaranteed. New York used the final pick from the Jamal Adams trade to select Wilson at No. 10. Analysis: The Saints gave up No. 16 overall, a third- and fourth-round pick to grab Washington's 11th spot to select Olave. The Saints badly needed speed on the outside and the run on receivers was real, so GM Mickey Loomis pulled off another first-round trade to get his guy. Analysis: The Rams did not have a first-round pick this year because they sent it to the Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford last offseason. Getting a haul of draft picks from the Dolphins in return for Hill gives Reid another chance to prove that belief is correct. Lloyd's lack of supreme athleticism cost him draft position, but he displayed blossoming pass-rush ability when given the chance at Utah, as well as the willingness to plug gaps against the run and cover tight ends. Analysis: The Colts gave up their first-round pick in the trade with Philadelphia for Carson Wentz last year. It's too early to make a complete evaluation of the Matthew Stafford trade, which netted the Lions an extra first-round pick this year. Immediate draft grades provide a foundation for future evaluations. These 2022 NFL Draft quick-snap grades are an indication of whether I think a prospect's selection is of appropriate value given his college film and athleticism scores. Waiting three years to evaluate draft classes, without accounting for how the decision was viewed at the time, usually leads to revisionist history.
Projecting Friday night's 73 picks, including names like Malik Willis, George Pickens, Desmond Ridder and Kenneth Walker III.
He has sideline-to-sideline range and ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash (4.44) among linebackers at the combine. Lining up all over the formation, the sure-handed McBride was the focal point of Colorado State’s offense and posted rare stats for a collegiate tight end (90/1,121/1) in 2021. While he isn’t as effective against the run, his length (34 ⅛" arms), bend and active hands should allow him to become a productive pass rusher early in his career. Brisker has the versatility to succeed in a variety of roles and alignments. Although he has shouldered a heavy workload (800 career touches), Hall was highly productive in college and has the frame and versatile skill set to be a featured back. Watson has an elite combination of size and speed, with a wide catch radius and is elusive for a big receiver. Improved decision making and ball placement helped Corral cut down on interceptions (five) in 2021 compared to the previous season (14), and Pete Carroll should appreciate Corral’s competitive play style. A four-year starter with 44 career wins, Ridder has the ability to process what he sees quickly and to make throws to all three levels of the field. While he missed most of the past season with a torn ACL, the lanky receiver has natural hands and excellent body control. At Georgia, he was the leader of the best defense in the country. He finished with his most productive season (13 TFLs and six sacks) in 2021. He generates plenty of zip on his throws, and his elite speed and dynamism as a runner stresses opposing defenses.
Ranking the top 230 prospects who could still hear their names called in rounds two through seven, including Nakobe Dean, Malik Willis and David Ojabo.
Watson has an elite combination of size and speed with a wide catch radius, and is elusive for a big receiver. Hall finished with his most productive season (13 TFLs and six sacks) in 2021. His intelligence and instincts allow him to play fast and impact the game in so many different ways. He had a 95/1,292/10 line in ’21 and PFF credited Moore with 26 broken tackles after the catch, which led FBS wide receivers last season. Although he has shouldered a heavy workload (800 career touches), Hall was highly productive and has the frame and versatile skill set to be a featured back. For teams that miss out on Jordan Davis or prefer to wait (a little longer) on a run-stuffing nose tackle, there won’t be much of a drop off with Jones. While he isn’t as effective against the run, his length (34 ⅛" arms), bend and active hands should allow him to become a productive pass rusher early in his career. Pickens’s best season came as a highly-touted true freshman when he hauled in 49 receptions for 727 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019. The scheme-diverse corner is a smooth and fluid mover with excellent ball skills. Similar to Elam, Hall has an NFL pedigree as he follows in the footsteps of his stepfather (Jeff Smith) and cousin (Roger Craig). Ojabo is relatively new to football, but he finished last season with 11 sacks—second in the Big Ten behind Hutchinson—and his pass-rush moves are more developed than one would expect given his limited experience. He’s joined by Iowa State running back Breece Hall, Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean and other collegiate stars who didn’t hear their names called on Thursday night in Las Vegas.
Carson Strong was not viewed as a first-round prospect in what is generally considered a weak quarterback class. But the Nevada signal-caller has plenty of ...
Strong saved his best performance for his final season in Reno, again earning MWC OPOY honors en route to leading the conference in touchdown passes (36) and passing yards (4,175), the former of which is a program single-season record. Strong needs some time to be molded, but can get there in the right place as a mid-to-late second-rounder. He ended the season with a loss to Ohio in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, throwing for 402 passing yards and 31 completions, both Nevada bowl game records. Strong has one of the best arms of the 2022 quarterback class, and plenty of production to show for it. According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Strong is considered a third-round draft selection, averaging out as the 90th overall pick. Carson Strong was not viewed as a first-round prospect in what is generally considered a weak quarterback class.

Dotson is a catch-and-run specialist with outstanding speed, quickness and burst. As a middle-of-the-field defender with size, range and versatility, the Notre Dame standout is the kind of playmaking safety defensive coordinators build game plans around. Wilson is a polished playmaker with A-plus route-running ability and ball skills. London is a former hooper with outstanding size, length and leaping ability. Ekwonu is an explosive run-blocker with a nasty temperament that sets the tone for the front line. Hutchinson is a blue-chip prospect with A-plus tools and technical skills.
The first round of the 2022 NFL Draft was a record-breaking evening of chaos, beginning with the culmination of Travon Walker's surprising ascent to No.
Oh, what a first night at the 2022 NFL Draft it was, indeed. Each of them members of Georgia's national championship team, they bookended a first round in which five Bulldogs defenders were taken, which is the most for a school in the common draft era. Pickett ended up being the only quarterback to hear his name called, marking the first occasion in which only one QB was picked in the opening round since 2013. It was the latest a quarterback has gone in the draft since the 49ers picked Jim Druckenmiller 26th overall back in 1997. Entering Thursday evening in Las Vegas, the draft was poised to be one of the most unpredictable in memory. Six wide receivers were selected in the top 20 -- beginning with USC's Drake London to the Falcons at No. 8 and concluding with Arkansas' Treylon Burks at No. 18 to the Titans -- for a common draft era (since 1967) record, per NFL Research.

A player's agent told Schefter that his player was in demand and would go in the first round and Schefter made sure to put this "information" out there to his 9.4 million Twitter followers. The host of the very popular Ryen Russillo Podcast shared his thoughts on everything from the NBA playoffs to Kevin Durant vs. He also had Aaron Rodgers for a lengthy interview and got the scoop that Rodgers did not know Davante Adams was going to bolt for Las Vegas when the quarterback re-signed with Green Bay. And it’s not that ESPN and the NFL Network offer bad coverage. I’m talking about the coverage from ESPN and NFL Network. To be clear, I’m not talking about the draft itself.
Will the Jaguars' gamble of taking Travon Walker pay off?
According to Valk, Long was on the road “minutes later … after stopping at a store to buy a jacket and scarf.” Long went all the way from Los Angeles to the Yukon-Alaska border, and only one of his photos made it into the magazine: a black-and-white shot of the climbing party from a distance. The only players from the ’97 draft who went on to attempt more than 200 passes were Plummer, Koy Detmer and Danny Weurfel. The strange thing about the photo is that it was shot by two of SI’s favorite outside photographers of the late 1960s. ‘It’s Sheedy and Long.’ In Los Angeles the girl comes on and says, ‘Sheedy and Long. You want Mr. Sheedy or Mr....’ ‘Well, which one is in?’ says Bloodgood. ‘I'll put him on,’ she says. (Caveat: before 2022, when five defenders were taken to start the draft.) Conor Orr wrote more about the draft than any person should, so I’ll just link to his author page instead of one individual post. This year’s QB class was widely regarded as a weak one, so it wasn’t a surprise that we had to wait until the back half of the round for one to be taken. Still, it was a bit of a surprise that only one (Pitt’s Kenny Pickett) was chosen. While Hutchinson’s and Thibodeaux’s college production made them safe choices at the top of the draft, Jacksonville is betting on Walker to take a leap once he gets to the NFL. He’s a stout run defender but had only 9.5 sacks in three college seasons. Kevin Hanson gave Detroit an A+ for the Hutchinson pick, not just because of his talent but because he fills a need for a team that struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks last year. That’s why Hanson gave Jacksonville a B- for the pick. Georgia’s Travon Walker went first to the Jaguars, who had been rumored to be targeting him for the past week or so, allowing the Lions to take a hometown product many considered to be the best player available, Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson. After that, the moves were more unpredictable.

McDuffie was my third-ranked corner and my eighth-ranked player overall ahead of the draft. The Jets added my model’s No. 12 overall player near the bottom of the first round, which is really only a fraction of the value they added tonight. Johnson had the second-most QB pressures (46) in the ACC in 2021, per PFF. The Jets will be counting on the rookie to generate that type of production as a pro, after the team ranked 30th in QB pressure rate (22.7%) last year, per NGS. The Ravens got my ninth-ranked player at No. 25 overall, hitting the Vegas jackpot (I had to!) again in Round 1. Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft is in the books. Had Hamilton gone to a team like the Cowboys, who have many solid pieces but need a safety, he would have provided a projected win-share increase of 0.74. But on the Ravens? The win-share increase is 0.78, the highest possible mark for Hamilton on any team.

McBride can block, he can catch and he's a card-carrying tough guy. Needing to find a future starter at tackle, Green Bay takes a shot on Petit-Frere, who has experience on both the right and left side. After using first-round picks on cornerback Trent McDuffie and edge rusher George Karlaftis to address the defense, Kansas City takes a swing on the talented Georgia wideout to help restock the passing game. The addition of a quality running back makes sense on the surface -- and it makes even more sense considering the potential suspension coming for Alvin Kamara. The Seahawks might not have planned on drafting a QB this year, but is it even possible to pass on Willis at this spot? With Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft in the books, here's a look at how Rounds 2 and 3 could play out in Las Vegas on Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
Malik Willis surprisingly went unpicked in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. So how much longer will the QB have to wait to hear his name called?
However, now that we're onto Day 2, the prospect of getting a potential star QB may be too good to pass up again. Behind Seattle, the Colts, Falcons, Lions, Commanders and Saints (No. 49) could be lurking as trade-up threats for Willis. Indy and Washington both acquired a veteran QB this offseason, but Matt Ryan is about to turn 37 and it wouldn't hurt to have an insurance policy for Carson Wentz, who is coming off a couple of rough seasons. The Giants just declined Daniel Jones' fifth-year option on Thursday and have a new regime in town. Yet he was one of four players in the green room without a new team by the end of Thursday, along with linebacker Nakobe Dean, cornerback Kyler Gordon and fellow quarterback Matt Corral. While we knew coming in this wasn't the strongest QB class, it was still a surprise to see Pickett as the only one taken through 32 picks. It was the first time that only one quarterback was selected in Round 1 since 2013, when the Buffalo Bills grabbed EJ Manuel 16th.
Malik Willis, Matt Corral, Desmond Ridder and Sam Howell are the names to know for this evening, and it will be interesting to see in what order they come off ...
Sam Howell is an interesting prospect, as he was the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2019, and named Second Team All-ACC in 2020. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 211 pounds, Ridder won 43 games during his time at Cincinnati -- which is the third-most victories recorded by a quarterback in FBS history. Many expect the Seahawks to take a quarterback somewhere in the draft, and they hold back-to-back picks in the second round at No. 40 overall and No. 41 overall. Liberty's Malik Willis could be a fit here, because he has the most upside of any quarterback in this class. Corral led the Ole Miss Rebels to a 10-3 record in 2021. The Seahawks have not been aggressive in trying to find Russell Wilson's replacement, and that's fine.
Liberty's Malik Willis, Mississippi's Matt Corral, Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder and North Carolina's Sam Howell remain available. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have ...
The going rate for a top NFL wideout in this offseason’s trade market has included, to this point, a 2022 first-round pick. Hall or Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker should become the first one chosen at some point Friday. The run on wide receivers should resume at some point Friday. He’s a steady player and is likely to come off the board relatively soon. Booth and several other cornerbacks should be in demand Friday. The Green Bay Packers traded Davante Adams earlier this offseason. He could be an effective interior pass rusher as a situational player. Bernhard Raimann, T, Central Michigan: He grew up in Austria and began his college football career as a tight end. Now, quarterback-needy teams must weigh what’s still available against the prospect of trading for a veteran such as Cleveland’s Baker Mayfield or San Francisco’s Jimmy Garoppolo. It would not be surprising for a team to move up to take Willis quickly in the second round. Willis has great potential but perhaps will need to be given time to develop. Only one of them, Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett, was selected, going 20th overall by the hometown Steelers.
Teams will be much more willing to grab this year's QBs in the second round, with all eyes now on Desmond Ridder and the Titans.
• Tampa Bay is picking first Friday, and that 33rd pick has been a catbird seat since the current format went into place a few years ago—since teams have all day to reset their boards and make offers for the pick. The idea of Williams opposite Justin Jefferson is a pretty fun one to think about. The Titans moved down from No. 26 to No. 35, with 35 being the third pick tonight and a more appropriate spot to grab Ridder (Seattle’s also done homework on him). Simply put, if you take one in the first round— the 2019 Cardinals notwithstanding—you’re probably done looking for a few years, and you’re probably tying your job security to the guy. And, in the case of a Sam Howell or a Desmond Ridder, the high floor of a quarterback available Friday could give teams a worst-case scenario where they get a quality backup on a very cheap contract for the next few years (with upside for the pick becoming much more). That new Steeler Kenny Pickett was the only one taken Thursday reflects what we’ve all really been saying for three months now and confirms that this simply isn’t a great year at the position in the draft.
The Alabama running back made a financially wise decision to return for a super-senior season at Alabama in 2022, adding enough value for him to become a ...
In the first meeting, he rushed 16 times for 55 yards, adding two receptions for 16 yards. Robinson showed he could be useful in the passing game by catching 35 passes for 296 yards and two scores. Prior to the 2021 season, Robinson had never rushed for 100-plus yards in a game. The Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer lists Robinson as his fifth-best running back prospect in a class devoid of first-rounders and 100th-best overall prospect. Robinson has been projected as high as a Day 2 pick, possibly as high as the third round. His likely best fit will be with a team that pairs him with a more fleet-footed back, though he could stretch the field more as a pass-catcher.
Cursed team's 'shock' steal; Super Bowl fancy's big hole: Draft Winners and Losers.
Only adding intrigue to this decision is the fact Jackson is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, although Baltimore will rush to franchise tag him anyway before letting him consider a movement elsewhere anyway. Nonetheless, the Packers have a few back-up plans but their first preference would have been to take one of the top Draft prospects. Only last month, Jackson had replied: “HELL NAW” to a tweet suggesting Brown could be traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. Green Bay, along with Kansas City, was expected to go after a star wideout after losing All-Pro receiver Davante Adams in the offseason. It is now 20 consecutive Drafts that the Packers have not selected a wide receiver in the first round. “The best cornerback in Sauce Gardner to play in a position that is so important in Robert Saleh’s defence. Get the ball in his hands and make everyone else tackle him. Run me a go.’ He is a playmaker,” ESPN analyst Booger McFarland said of Burks. Down the track, this may well prove to be a masterstroke from the Tennessee powerbrokers. Instead, all three emerged winners with the Jets the biggest of the three. The Jets did not end up making the blockbuster Deebo Samuel trade but still finished with two top-10 picks, which was a franchise first in the common-draft era. That they did, with six taken inside the Top 20, including Treylon Burks.
Just one quarterback was selected in the first round, with Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett staying local after being picked 20th by the Steelers. Pickett was the ...
The Vikings, meanwhile, have been unkind to the secondaries of their future. Green Bay made an aggressive move to make sure it had its choice of the second wave. They didn’t in the first round, instead taking unheralded guard Cole Strange. The Ravens took advantage of his fall and took him 45th overall. There are plenty of receivers left, and the Bears need help around their first-round quarterback from last season. Adam Kilgore:The Patriots needed to get more explosive on both offense and defense. Adam Kilgore:A big run of wide receivers as George Pickens, Alec Pierce and Skyy Moore come off the board three picks in a row to the Steelers, Colts and Chiefs. (Short, speedy and muscled, Moore is a pretty clean replacement, at least in theory, for Tyreek Hill.) The Patriots traded up to take Tyquan Thornton two picks before that run started. Bad news: You have to block Jordan Davis every day in practice. He was the third straight wideout chosen after Georgia’s George Pickens went 52nd overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati’s Alec Pierce went 53rd to the Indianapolis Colts. Goedeke is now first in line to protect Brady from the interior. But he may go a long way in determining whether the Buccaneers can win the NFC and Tom Brady can get back to the Super Bowl. Ali Marpet’s surprise retirement left the Bucs in desperate need of a guard. After a dramatic first day, the 2022 NFL draft continues Friday night from Las Vegas with rounds 2 and 3.

Bonitto is an ideal sub-package rusher with the potential to tally 10-plus sacks as a situational defender. Andersen is an explosive athlete with the size, length and strength to be effective as a run or pass defender. Paschal is a rotational player with the potential to contribute as a situational rusher early in his career. The Cincinnati standout is a decathlete on the perimeter, with his combination of size, strength and athleticism creating problems for defenders. The dynamic pass rusher from Ole Miss is a spectacular sack artist with elite first-step quickness and burst. The Cincinnati product will compete for playing time as a role player early in his career. Mathis is a space eater with enough athleticism and mobility to develop into more than a pocket pusher at the next level. Booth is a rock-solid cover corner with a loaded toolbox for the position. Walker is a gritty runner with a combination of balance, body control and vision that makes him effective in any style of offense. He is an aggressive bump-and-run defender with the speed, quickness and athleticism to shadow premier receivers at the line of scrimmage. Mafe soared up the charts as a dynamic edge defender with outstanding rush skills. Although he needs to refine his technique, Gordon should compete for playing time as a starter early in his career.
Aussie 'freak of nature' Faalele made to wait; 'shock' twist for QB — NFL Draft LIVE.
Mayfield also said he felt “disrespected” by the club, which drafted him first overall in 2018. Cabot also noted that yet-to-be-identified teams could step into the light in the coming days, “depending on how the draft falls.” (100*) Arizona Cardinals (from Baltimore) (102*) Miami Dolphins (from San Francisco) (98*) Washington Commanders (from New Orleans) (82) Atlanta Falcons (from Indianapolis) (96) Denver Broncos (from Los Angeles Rams) (94) New England Patriots (from Kansas City) (81) New York Giants (from Miami) (80) Houston Texans (from New Orleans) (35) Tennessee Titans (from New York Jets) — Tennessee Titans (from Jets): Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn For a player with his mass, Faalele moves surprisingly well, but his calling card is his unique size and strength.

Ruckert is a big, slow, blocking tight end who totaled a 54-615-3 receiving line on 75 targets while appearing in 48 games at Ohio State. His career 5% target share is second lowest in this tight end rookie class and his 1.0 YPRR is easily the lowest. Robinson may eventually emerge as an early-down and goal-line back, but he may not be a big factor in the pass game. He is one of the oldest receivers in this rookie class (turns 25 in May), having spent four years at USC (52 catches) and two more at Tennessee (84 catches). He wasn't much of a factor as a receiver during most of his collegiate career, but "broke out" in 2021 with a 62-807-7 receiving line while working as a short-area (6.9 aDOT) slot receiver (72% slot). He impressed at the combine with the top 40-yard dash (4.31) and speed score (118) at the position. He primarily blocked and was a nonfactor in the pass game during three seasons at Oklahoma State (31-361-4 receiving line in 33 games) before busting out with a 44-598-8 line in 11 games at Virginia in 2021. He totaled 224 carries and 57 targets during 15 games at Arizona State. Most of that damage was done in 2021, as he posted a 182-1,006-15 rushing line while adding 43-456-1 in the passing game. Tolbert has handled a target share of at least 33% and an air-yard share of at least 53% each of the last two seasons. He isn't quite as big or strong as his older brother, Dalvin, but he has the speed (4.42 40-yard dash), explosiveness and receiving ability (huge wingspan) to make noise in the pros as a situational back. He is a super athlete with a massive frame (6-foot-7) and the biggest wingspan (82 inches) in the rookie TE class. Robinson is a 5-foot-8, 178-pound slot receiver who was force fed the ball during his final season at Kentucky. In the slot 79% of the time, Robinson soaked up a class-high 40% of the Wildcats' targets, as well as 45% of the air yards. Walker has a ways to go in the passing game (a 5% target share led to a 13-89-1 receiving line last season), but he's young (21) and sports a terrific speed/power combo (4.38 40-yard dash). His 2022 value is a major question mark and will depend on the health of Penny and Carson. For now, we'll assume Carson (neck) is on the roster, which explains the relatively low projection. He was used often as a vertical target during his four seasons at Penn State, though his 10.7 aDOT in 2021 was easily the lowest of his career. Watson was used in a variety of ways during four seasons at NDSU. He was a vertical threat (career 20.5 YPR on 104 catches), ball carrier (49 rushes) and kick returner (27 attempts). He played at a "small" school and is older than most in this rookie class, but his outstanding combination of size, speed, physical ability and versatility makes him an intriguing prospect.
Iowa State running back Breece Hall, Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder and Liberty quarterback Malik Willis headlined Day 2 of the NFL draft.
Sanders is my 84th-ranked prospect, so he’s a solid value here. As my 181st-ranked player, the Bengals could have waited a round (or two) for Carter. The Panthers didn’t force a quarterback and their patience pays off. Like with Rachaad White a few picks earlier, Davis-Price is a back I’d prefer to take later than the third round. He’s a versatile playmaker on both defense and special teams, as he had five interceptions in 2021 and he finished his Cougars career with nine return touchdowns. While the Browns have Myles Garrett, they need more pass-rush help, and Wright gives them a boost. Woods ran a 4.61 40-yard dash with a 37½” vertical jump and 24 bench press reps at 225 pounds. A former (high school) safety himself, he’s at his best in coverage and had three interceptions, including two returned for scores, in ’21. Ingram is my 88th-ranked prospect and a prospect that I would have preferred to target in the third round. The Cowboys lost Randy Gregory this offseason, and Williams will give their pass rush a boost. He’s a scheme-diverse corner and is a smooth and fluid mover with excellent ball skills. He is a patient runner with outstanding vision and contact balance, and he’s a reliable receiver out of the backfield.

Blur of a safety. This is good value for Carolina. Corral's ball-placement issues were a major concern. Parham is a Raiders type too. Up-and-down the line rusher with a nasty swim. A tick early because of his physical limitations. Such a fun player on film. In today's day and age, it's strange that he's a legitimate tweener. Finally! Dean is a rockstar on the field. Not a blocker. Surprisingly not a major YAC type despite those traits. Pocket presence needs some fine-tuning but not a major concern. But a smart decision-maker.

He's a renowned leader, winner and worker – plus a very good athlete to boot. Not fair to ask Bonitto to replace Von Miller. But the former Sooner is a plus athlete (6-3, 248, 4.5 speed) who was extremely productive, posting 16 sacks and 26½ TFLs since 2020. He caught 54 passes in four season for the Buckeyes, though a dozen of those produced TDs. 275? – before he's able to serve as a nice change of pace opposite Nick Bosa. Another gift for QB Kyler Murray, McBride will get to learn the ropes from vet Zach Ertz. He's a quick, shifty type who can operate out wide or from the slot and broke an FBS-high 26 tackles last season. A native of Nigeria who grew up in Scotland, Ojabo (6-4, 250 pounds) exploded for 11 sacks last season and will eventually bring needed juice to Baltimore's pass rush. A 6-3, 195-pounder with sub-4.5 speed offers plenty of intrigue and has even been mentioned favorably in the same breath as former Dawgs legend A.J. Green. Pickett-to-Pickens could be fun. A team captain for the Tide who can two-gap and shut down run lanes. In his lone seasons with the Spartans, the Wake Forest transfer rushed for 1,636 yards and 18 TDs. Watson won't replace Adams – who would? They make their inaugural pick of this draft by taking a solid corner, one who can play outside or in the slot and augments the league's third-ranked pass defense.
