Saint George's Day 2022: Why isn't St. George's Day a bank holiday? (Derbyshire Times)

April 23rd is St. George's Day, or the Feast of Saint George. It's celebrated in many countries, not just England – he is the patron saint of Bulgaria, ...

In Gibbon’s account, George was eventually captured and killed by the oppressed masses. This act of martyrdom for his religion is what made him a saint – though other sources believe George to be a different person entirely. This myth originates back to the 11th century in Georgia, almost a millennium after the real St. George had already died. Dr Shola fumes at St George's Day and says patron saint would be ... (Daily Express)

DR SHOLA MOS-SHOGBAMIMU has fumed at Saint George's Day, claiming the patron saint would be 'trafficked to Rwanda' in today's Britain.

John Cavalier wrote: “A patron SAINT. We don't 'claim him as our own' in a secular sense, we venerate him for his Christianity, as someone to aspire to, as someone martyred for their faith and as a slayer of the dragon, of Satan and his angels.” “The English aren’t loyal to who and what Saint George is but claim him as patron. She said in a post on Twitter: “Saint George is a Palestinian/Turkish immigrant who would be trafficked to Rwanda today by this British Government. But for writer and lawyer Dr Shola, the celebration of the dragon-slayer today is “disingenuous”. Boris Johnson claimed the plan would break the business model of “vile” people smugglers who have turned the Channel into a “watery graveyard”. Every April 23 brings with it the repeated gloats that the patron saint of England was Turkish, in attempted snubs at such traditional views that, as put by G K Chesterton, “St George he was for England, and before he killed the dragon he drank a pint of English ale out of an English flagon”. This year, additional ammunition has been provided in the form of the Government’s new immigration plans.
