Pixar 's latest film, Lightyear , is an origin story of sorts for the character of Buzz Lightyear, serving as the film that Andy would have seen that made ...
That's thinking about five and a half years in the future all the time…at the same time, we need to be experiencing our lives as they are, our families as they are, as we're going through that. McLane said he wanted to explore that aspect of humanity because of how easy it is to miss the present moment. "…That aspect was always baked into the story idea of the movie, but it also reflects the passion that we have as a studio to represent a wide variety of experiences of people, and even if they aren't our own, getting in people to help educate and make sure those [representations] are authentic."

Lightyear's producer has revealed that the filmmakers drew inspiration from a multi-day research trip to NASA for the film's spaceship designs.
If the other aspects of the film show half as much attention to detail as the ships' designs have seen, it is likely that Lightyear is not a film that any fan of Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story will want to miss. Of course, Lightyear will be featuring all-new, imaginary spacecraft rather than existing ones, but it was clearly very important to the filmmakers that the world of Buzz Lightyear had a basis in reality. According to Susman, it just so happened that Turning Red producer Lindsey Collins knew an astronaut stationed on the International Space Station and was able to get the Lightyear crew a "multi-day exploration of the Johnson Space Center in Houston." Susman has gone on to detail how the crew was able to see nearly every piece of equipment the organization had to offer, and they learned so many things that they were able to bring back to the production of Lightyear. See his full quote below: There were many lingering questions regarding what the world Buzz Lightyear hails from looks and feels like, and as such, the filmmakers of Lightyear had to work in great detail while creating the universe. We saw the training pool for the spacewalks and we posed with the poor sot wearing 350 pounds of gear. Lightyear producer Galyn Susman has revealed that the filmmakers drew inspiration from NASA for the movie's spaceship design.
Lightyear is a more realistic look at one-half of the Toy Story main protagonist, but his origin also nods to another iconic Chris Evans role.
As for the similarities to his previous role as Captain America, there's no more fitting coincidence to show how much of a hero Buzz is. Buzz also met the relatives of someone he was close with, similar to how Steve did. Like a fish out of water, he had to acclimate to his new timeline and form The Avengers, a team that is still a staple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Cap and Buzz's similarities go even deeper than being unlikely time travelers.
Chris Evans, Taika Waititi, and Keke Palmer geek out to the latest Lightyear trailer in this delightful reaction video from Pixar.
Then again, we now live in a world where trailers have their own trailers and studios release their own reaction videos. The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. But studios have also learned there’s a whole other way to get extra promotion out of their films’ promos: trailer reaction videos.
A Pixar producer reveals this isn't blink and you miss it rep.
It’s a touching moment,” she said, according to /Film. They’ve always been a part of the film. “We’ve always had the lesbian couple.
How soon before a movie actually comes out can you say it's going to be your favorite of the year? Disney-Pixar dropped another trailer yesterday for the ...
Of course, easier said than done, and the trailer ends in another flurry of action shots that give us a better look at the bigger, badder Zurg that Lightyear and crew will have to contend with—now complete with his signature triple barreled ion cannon. This new trailer shows us the outcome of that flight: Buzz finds himself stranded, not on some unknown planet, but more than fifty years in the future. We’d already known from the first trailer that Buzz was the test pilot for Star Command’s first hyperspeed flight after he and his crew had been marooned on an unknown planet for a year.
Pixar's Angus MacLane and Galyn Susman offer a glimpse inside the highly anticipated summer adventure.
And looking at the space you’re in and thinking about being in that space for six months, it’s just—you can’t help but have an emotion, an emotional reaction to that. That resonates with me very much, and I was very excited to try to tell that story in particular with an aspirational character like Buzz. Because it helps keep you on the positive side of that discussion. But you can’t help, when speaking with somebody who’s about to go and spend six months up on the ISS, but think about that isolation. What will fit within the narrative of the film, and what’s enjoyable for the audience to watch? And he has attempted to explain the science of time dilation to us with a lot of various examples. He’s gonna take the next step, move forward, and appreciate what he has in the present. Galyn Susman: Well, note that the “sci-fi” is with a small “s” and a big “F” in this sci-fi universe. [Laughs.] Like, that was born from the idea of the challenges of production, of making an animated film. So you have a list of—What’s the obligatory scene for the movie? And so you kind of build around that: What’s the genre of the film you’re working on? And in particular Thomas Marshburn, who’s been available to us through the process, got on Zoom for a launch that he wasn’t a part of, and basically explained it to our team as that was happening. And then we knew in the second act he was gonna be connected with a group that he was not familiar with.
The new trailer offers more details about the plot of the movie. Apparently Buzz goes on a mission to test “hyperspace” that ends up with him returning over 60 ...
