World of Warcraft: Dragonflight adds new Evoker class, Dracthyr race (Polygon)

World of Warcraft's latest expansion, Dragonflight, will add its first new ranged class since the game launched 18 years ago. We spoke to Blizzard about how ...

Ultimately, much of how the Evoker will work in World of Warcraft is unclear. And so it feels like, in order to really deliver that fantasy of being a dragon in the world of Warcraft, [allowing for only one race to play the class] was a necessary step.” As far as the Preservation healing spec, Holinka said the goal is to always find a niche while still allowing them to be competitive in raids and dungeons. The Evoker class is the first ranged class Blizzard has ever added to World of Warcraft. All the other post-release classes — Death Knights, Monks, and Demon Hunters — are melee-focused. As a single class and race combo, the Evoker sacrifices the pure customization that WoW has always had for something else entirely: synergy. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight will finally take players to the long-awaited Dragon Isles. Here, they’ll meet up with a recently-awakened species called the Dracthyr — dragon people who can transform into humans at will.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight will add playable and rideable dragons (PC Gamer)

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight returns the MMO to its origins, welcoming back dragons (in playable and rideable forms) and Classic-style talent trees, ...

Most of the game's world now scales to whatever level you are and you can choose to do the older expansion content in any order you want. Early in the expansion, you'll have the ability to train a dragon as a mount to fly through the leveling process and beyond. Whether or not what you make or gather is high quality will be determined by a new set of stats, and gear to wear for those stats, tied to professions. Blizzard said it has put a lot of effort into refining the game's oldest systems, the first of which is a return to a talent system that resembles the ways of the past. The new max level in WoW: Dragonflight is level 70. The mini map and health bar will be larger and have a slightly more minimal look. You'll be able to customize your dragon with different colors of scales, horns, and armor as you progress through the story. Evokers will be the first class in the game with spells that you charge up to change their power level. They can cast magical ranged spells to heal allies and damage foes, and are the only race that can be created as the new Evoker class. Evokers, which are classified as one of the game's 'hero classes', will begin with a choice between Horde and Alliance and then start at level 58 in a unique starting zone. Dragonflight is set on the Dragon Isles, a location that's been essentially a myth for most of WoW's history, hidden away in game files and occasionally mentioned in dialogue as the game aged. Story-wise, the Horde and Alliance have sent an expedition of scientists and settlers to explore the land, which doesn't sound particularly optimistic for whoever has been living there for thousands of years.

Here are all the new zones coming to WoW: Dragonflight (Dot Esports)

World of Warcraft's next expansion, Dragonflight, was revealed by Blizzard Entertainment earlier today. And much like every WoW expansion, a new continent ...

This mountainous, largely vertical zone has been preserved through the millennia by the bronze dragons’ magic, which could “lend itself to a variety of gameplay options and adventures for players to undertake,” according to Blizzard. Thladraszus is also the home of the Dragonflight expansion’s major hub city, Valdrakken. Here, players will encounter the green dragons in lush groves and verdant forests, while questing alongside the native centaur clans of the zone in its thorough plains and flatlands. The Waking Shores are also home to the black dragonflight, which has been in a weakened state since Deathwing was defeated by the other four dragon aspects in the Cataclysm expansion. The Dragon Isles will present players with a linear questing experience similar to the campaign of Shadowlands. Players will not be able to pick which zones they quest in on a one-by-one basis as they did in the Legion and Battle for Azeroth expansions. Here, players will encounter Alexstrazsa the Life-Binder and the rest of the red dragons in a primal land breathing with elemental energy and magic. But with the launch of the new expansion, the Alliance and Horde will sail to their shores to undertake a new adventure.

Blizzard says it's prepared a full "revamp" to improve the default user experience without limiting the potential of custom add-ons. Compared to normal mounts, Dragonriding is said to be more interactive with improved momentum and skill-testing maneuvers, and it'll be available "right from the start" of the expansion. Dracthyrs are explicitly tied to the new Evoker class, which is said to combine traditional magic with the unique abilities of dragons.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight's talent trees getting a major rework (Polygon)

Blizzard announced World of Warcraft: Dragonflight on Tuesday, revealing a new talent system that evokes the trees of old-school World of Warcraft.

What are some of the coolest things we have, and let’s put it in a talent tree so that players can make some choices and get those cool things back.” After nearly a decade of very rigid selection process — Holinka said you currently make “about seven choices about your character” — and no major Azerite, Artifact, or Covenant-adjacent system in Dragonflight, the talent rework is looking to be the most significant change in the expansion. While players won’t be able to put points into multiple specializations like in the Wrath of the Lich King, the new system does allow for customization and hybridization. With the new trees, players will be able to expand and customize their classes to fit their needs. Back in World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, Blizzard replaced the original tree-based talent system for a small group of very powerful skills players could choose from. But outside of the fancy new content, Blizzard will also be focusing on revamping older systems with Dragonflight. More specially, the much maligned talent tree will see its first major overhaul in nearly a decade.

The Biggest Features Coming with World of Warcraft: Dragonflight (Game Rant)

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, its ninth expansion, has officially been revealed and promises to shake up the formula of the 18-year-old game.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is preparing to bring World of Warcraft back to its roots and give players more customization. Another major feature of Dragonflight will be Dragonriding. Players ally themselves with the dragonflights and learn how to fly through the air like never before. Players will spend the majority of their time in Dragonflight on the new set of zones called the Dragon Isles. These islands are the ancient home of the dragonflights, and are comprised of five different zones. Players will be able to choose if their Dracthyr will join the Horde or Alliance. One of the largest features to come with Dragonflight is the class and race hybrid known as Dracthyr. It has been two expansions since World of Warcraft received a new class, and the Dracthyr seem to be taking this concept to the next level. Dragonflight is set to shake up much of the World of Warcraft formula in hopes that it can revitalize the game.

World of Warcraft Dragonflight reveal: Everything announced at the ... (Laptop Mag)

We're 3 hours away from the reveal of WoW 10.0. After all of the rumors and speculation revolving around the Dragon Isles, Evoker class, Dragonkin race, and ...

The new expansion is also introducing crafting stats and quality levels to items the player creates. Dragonflight's UI revamp is approached with the idea that the player can customize the elements of their screen in the ways that best fit their playstyles. Dragonflight will be introducing a new feature called Dragon Riding. Players will be able to do dive bombs and gain boosts of speeds to traverse the Dragon Isles in dynamic ways. Crafting specializations are also being introduced, which allows the player to tackle different things even if they're the same profession. Bronze magic seems quite unique, as it allows the healer to provide hastening buffs to the party (essentially minor versions of bloodlust). The Dracthyr even has a humanoid alternative, allowing players to switch between them when desired. It's being referred to as the Dracthyr Evoker, and allows the player to channel all five Aspects, with Red and Blue spread to the Devastation Specialization for ranged damage and Bronze and Green found in the Preservation Specialization for healing. The former utilizes Red and Blue magic, while the latter puts Bronze and Green magic to use. Balancing Dragonflight with the return of my favorite expansion will consume my life. There will be lots of elements that exist to modernize the action bars, mini-map and health bars. Be sure to tune in on YouTube or Twitch to catch the show. The Dragonflight deep dive is beginning right now. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight's new zones look far more dedicated towards traditional high fantasy with its gorgeous plains and tall mountains.

Finding a way to make this system more engaging is welcome, but I have a feeling this could lead to even more of a grind. Items a crafter can make and reagents gatherers can acquire will have a quality level attached to it. And when 9.1 launched, they had to grind Research to do the same in Korthia. These were clear ways to push the player into an elongated grind for better armor, especially since the required cost would increase exponentially. You can even input reagents only you can get your hands on to help contribute to the crafting process. To cap off the Dragonflight reveal, UI Designer Joanna Gianulis and Principal Game Designer Eric Holmberg-Weidler sat down for a brief period to discuss the changes coming to professions. Whether it be the revival of talent points, a cinematic trailer full of good vibes, or an absolutely adorable new dragon race, Dragonflight has been channeling elements of the golden age of WoW. Especially after Shadowlands raised the bar for ridiculousness in this series, it's really exciting to come back to high fantasy.

Professions are getting a massive upgrade in the form of work orders, which will allow players to recruit each other more easily to create items, as well as new profession equipment, and a new specialization system. To do this, players will journey to the Dragon Isles, which will be split up into five different zones. Players can also navigate the Dragon Isles through the air using Dragonriding, which seems to be somewhere between gliding and flying.

WoW dev reveals approach to Dragonflight's cross-faction content ... (Dexerto)

Ahead of the new World of Warcraft expansion, WoW Dragonflight, Blizzard's Pat Dawson, explains how cross-faction play will work.

“I don’t think we’re necessarily planning any cross-faction specific mechanics or anything like that – I think it’s more of an accessibility feature,” he elaborates. “We’re committed to continuing the cross-faction feature throughout our raid and dungeon experience in Dragonflight,” Dawson states. With a slew of dungeons available on release and raids pegged for the not-so-distant future, cross-faction play will also be one of the main features of Dragonflight. Arriving alongside Patch 9.2.5, players will finally be able to team up with their historical enemies and tear the terrors of Azeroth asunder.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Faces the Impossible Task of "Saving ... (Den of Geek)

Activision Blizzard is currently under investigation following accusations of harassment, discrimination, and fostering a hostile work environment.

I don’t know if Dragonflight will be a good expansion, but I know that the idea that there’s nothing else out there quite like WoW isn’t what it used to be. It’s torn between the past and present and is largely populated by a community that has too often been forced to deal with the uphill battle of starting over while carrying the burden of their nostalgia. That’s not to say that it and other recent expansions haven’t introduced new ideas but rather that large parts of them were designed to lure people in with the promise that you can go home again. What a lot of people want is a new version of WoW that offers something a little different but still feels special in that classic way. So much of the game that used to feel like an adventure now feels like an obligation or chore. Now, though, Dragonflight feels burdened with the impossible task of saving a game that it was only ever meant to expand.
