'His head is gone': Unflappable Smith finally loses it as notorious Masters hole claims latest victim.

He continued to struggle on the ensuing holes and uncharacteristically showed signs of frustation, smashing his club into the ground at one point. Tiger Woods made a 10 on the hole in 2022. The world No.6 put his tee shot at the par-3 into Rae’s Creek, then mis-hit his third shot and two-putted to a devastating triple bogey.

Masters 2022 live updates: Cam Smith makes crushing triple on 12 ... (GolfDigest.com)

Masters 2022: The latest from Sunday's final round at Augusta National.

He made the putt for par, but not what he envisioned when he got to the tee. 2:17 p.m.: McIlroy squanders an opportunity at the par-5 second when finds the front bunker and fails to get up and down for birdie. His chip barely makes it onto the fringe, and he fails to get up-and-down for par. 3:16 p.m.: Scheffler's second shot at the second finds the greenside bunker, and he's unable to get up and down for birdie. Scheffler at least manages to punch his second shot up to around the green, but the ball doesn't hold, and he'll have to scramble to save par. Hell of a par save to settle in and get the round going. At the sixth, his tee shot came to rest about a mile from the hole, and his birdie effort came up 10 feet short. Smith pures a draw on to the green and has a great look at birdie. 4 p.m.: Pars for Scheffler and Smith at the fifth. 4:36 p.m.: Smith was forced to lay up at the eighth after his tee shot found the bunker, then he sailed the green with a 9 iron on his approach. He damn near jars it for eagle at the 14th, leaving himself with a five-footer for birdie to get to 11 under. Rory McIlroy hits the shot of the week at No. 18, holing out from the bunker for birdie to post seven under.

Cam Smith melts down in Masters implosion (NEWS.com.au)

Cameron Smith's Masters dream suffered a huge blow as his early surge went to waste with a crucial error that could cost him a green jacket.

He was tied for 47th when he walked off the course — shortly after Scottie Scheffler, the leader at nine-under, teed off. Meanwhile, Smith’s countryman Min Woo Lee equalled a Masters record for the lowest score on the front nine by shooting 30, featuring four birdies and an eagle. Smith bogeyed 10 but kept the dream alive with a birdie on 11 before imploding on the 12th hole. It was enough to put him in outright third at the time, ahead of Collin Morikawa and Lowry, but he was still two shots behind McIlroy. He was five-under through 10 holes and an eagle on the 13th saw him race to six-under. Smith’s early heroics on the first two holes were tempered when he bogeyed the third. But by this stage it didn’t matter and Scheffler sent the Augusta crowd into raptures after draining his final putt. Woods, clad in his traditional final-round red, again drew throngs of spectators. It all came crumbling down for Smith on the notorious par-3 12th. Rory McIlroy (second) collected $2.17 million whiel Scheffler is $3.62 million richer.
