Jack Harlow's 'First Class' is all over TikTok (Mashable)

Artists like Jack Harlow, Harry Styles, Lorde, and Olivia Rodrigo are all over TikTok this week, setting off new trends and debuting new music.

The Knocked Up clip in question pulls from a conversation that goes, "Am I too old to be here? When Rodrigo released Sour in May of last year everyone slipped into a teenage state of mind, and that energy has been revived with the Sour tour. By the time the entire song comes out he might not have any haters left.posted a video that reads, "can't say I've ever been a Jack Harlow stan but TRUST I am waiting with baited breath for this song." I know we've all fallen into the TikTok music trap before, where the viral snippet is the only part of the song worth listening to, but Harlow is no stranger to creating music that both performs well on TikTok and bangs in its entirety. This isn't the first iteration of this trend, but it has given a second life to people looking to explore how they've changed over these tumultuous past few years. For example, @gingeraleprincessposted a video that reads, "can't say I've ever been a Jack Harlow stan but TRUST I am waiting with baited breath for this song."

I want to be kind, I want to be charming, but I want to be tough and alpha. “I want to be humble, I want to be cocky. “I’m always looking for the one,” he says. He looks fucking gross.’… It builds up to so much, the same way the love builds up to so much that it starts to mean nothing to you. I think part of what sets me apart is with a lot my music, the tempo is not made for jumping. But what’s driving me to push the envelope is I know there’s still kids that are 11 years old that want to be the best rapper alive one day, like I wanted to be at 11, and there’s not enough people making music for those kids. And that’s what I want to do.’ We need more people in our generation that are trying to be the best.” I was like, ‘They don’t need to see these dumb-ass shits.'” But the Kendrick comment “made it so beautiful. But he had a time where he was trying to figure it out.” When I was trying to be taken seriously at 18 and 19, I didn’t want anyone to see the videos of me of 14. I Can't Shut Up About Jack Harlow Dancing (The Cut)

Deep dives into my online obsession of the week. Jack Harlow, doing his little dancey-dance at the Grammys. Photo-Illustration: by The Cut; Photos: Getty Images.

Then, I saw him doing the choreography to “Industry Baby” with Lil Nas X at the Grammys, and I was indoctrinated into the Church of Harlow immediately. Last year, the mayor of Louisville, Kentucky, declared December 18 Jack Harlow Day. Harlow has Lil Nas X’s seal of approval — an equally honorable distinction. Harlow also seems somewhat self-aware about the fact that he’s a white person in a predominantly Black industry. I’m talking about capital C Choreography — the kind typically reserved for boy bands and female artists. Harlow’s sudden omnipresence is in part because he’s promoting his forthcoming album, Come Home the Kids Miss You, which comes out on May 6. I tried to stay indifferent to Jack Harlow. I tried to write him off as a dry-cleaned Post Malone. An Angus Cloud with more media training.

A follow up to February's “Nail Tech,” “First Class” is the second single to be released from Harlow's upcoming sophomore album Come Home the Kids Miss You, expected May 6. Also in this week's new music, Yung Lean and FKA twigs make grungy music together, Chlöe throws it back to Bubba Sparxxx, and Soulwax makeover Peggy Gou.

Ok! Who doesn’t like treats?: Chlöe,“Treat Me” - On “Treat Me,” the second release from her highly-anticipated debut solo album, Chlöe offers listeners another earworm with a lot of the same vibes we’re used to from the songstress. It’s a vibe!: Yung Lean featuring FKA Twigs, “Bliss” - This is simply a dream come true for fans of the ethereal wonder, English singer and songwriter FKA twigs. Likely not, but if anyone could prove that it can be done deftly, it’s Jack Harlow. On new release “First Class,” the internet’s new boyfriend ad libs alongside the “Glamorous” chorus: “I been a G, throw up the L, sex in the A.M., O- R – O – U – S, and I can put you in first class,” he promises.
