During an interview with Fox News on Friday, actor-director Mel Gibson spoke about faith, ego, and redemption, while promoting his latest film Father Stu.
"Hard jump to make for a lot of us." Even if you do get hit because you are going to realize that there's a purpose in it, and you're not the most important thing in the world and that there's a way to deal with that stuff and almost be grateful for it." He pointed out that as the father of nine kids, he hasn't been a perfect parent. Gibson said another theme of the film is that "it's never too late to fix stuff." And if your ego's not that healthy, if you actually realize there's something greater than you and find a bit of humility, you're not going to get hit as hard. Father Stu has been a project of Wahlberg's for the past six years, according to The Hollywood Reporter's exclusive story.
Mel Gibson is one of the few Hollywood stars that hasn't given his take on the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
While it would have been interesting to hear Gibson’s take on “The Slap” and the potential fall-out Smith is facing, his publicist was wise to keep the actor out of it. It seems like Watters’ question was a reference to Gibson’s own complicated and scandalous past. The investigation was later dropped after Gibson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge.
Gibson's representation quickly pulled the plug after he was asked to share his thoughts about the Will Smith/Chris Rock incident.
Controversy has followed Gibson for decades in the wake of his inflammatory statements and behavior. Despite Gibson’s lack of comment on the matter, his name has come up many times on social media in relation to the slap heard around the world. The Lethal Weapon star grinned, then appeared to restrain himself and silently waved the question off, just as a member of his team, offscreen but on mic, informed Watters that the interview was now concluded.
Many are still debating the slap situation that occurred between Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars a little over a week ago.
Though it’s hard to say if they’ll provide a response or opt out of answering like Mel Gibson did. Daniel Radcliffe, for example, was asked to share thoughts during a recent interview, and the actor provided an honest response. Meanwhile, ceremony co-host Wanda Sykes thought it was “gross” for the Fresh Prince alum to be allowed to remain at the show and accept the Academy Award for Best Actor. Mel Gibson recently became one of the latest to be asked his opinion on the polarizing topic. Let’s be honest, it’s totally fair that he wouldn’t want to weigh in. Check it out for yourself in the Twitter clip down below:
Fox News's Jesse Watters attempted to get an opinion on Will Smith's slap from Mel Gibson, but it didn't go to plan.
While Gibson may have his own opinions about the Will Smith incident, this was clearly a lesson in how not to find out what that is. Between 2006 and 2010, Gibson found himself in a bad place, with arrests for DUI, charges of domestic abuse, and reports of racism derailing his career. Gibson was seen hanging his head, then laughing and pointing at the camera, while almost immediately, a voice from off-camera told the host that their time was up and thanked him for his time.

Actor Mel Gibson discussed suffering, pride, and redemption in a recent interview while promoting his upcoming film Father Stu.
And you are not the most important thing in the world and that there’s a way to deal with that stuff, and almost be grateful for it,” Gibson explained. I think the sooner that you realize there’s something bigger than all of us the easier it’s going to be in your life. I don’t think we’ve cornered the market on ego.” And of course something is going to come by and knock you down at some point in your life, now, later.” And then I’ll be Bjorn again.” However, he is involved in a motorcycle accident and comes to the realization he should be a Catholic priest. How do you not only stand up, but find the purpose in that? “And how do you stand up from that? Gibson answers, “I think that’s one of the main themes. And that is what life is all about. In order to win her heart, he begins changing his own life and attending Mass regularly with her. While working at the grocery story he begins to court a woman named Carmen who happens to be a Catholic Sunday school teacher.
