Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - What To Know Before ... (Unpause Asia)

Tomorrow on the 5th of April we're getting one of the more anticipated games in the series LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

There will also be a fair bit of flying around in vehicles in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga alongside the usual ground-level fighting and play. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be the first Lego Star Wars game since 2016’s The Force Awakens, and looks set to be the most ambitious addition to the series yet, covering all nine of the core Star Wars movies. There are also additional packs for Star Wars: The Bad Batch, a pack for troopers (Death Trooper, Incinerator etc) and the classic characters pack with all the classic heroes from Luke Skywalker to Darth Vader. Combat has been sharpened up – lightsaber duels will focus on combo building, with a mixture of light, heavy and Force attacks wielded in tandem, while ranged shooting/blaster combat allows for more precision – as well as the ability to hide behind cover – and moves the gameplay to an over-the-shoulder viewpoint. Tomorrow on the 5th of April we’re getting one of the more anticipated games in the series LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. That’s a lot of information to get through, so strap yourself into your pod racer, grab your friendly football-shaped droid, and let’s get stuck into what you need to know about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review – Feel The Co-Op ... (Press Start Australia)

In my household, the expectations for this LEGO game have been built up. Bigger than a UCS Millennium Falcon #75192. My two sons, Luke and Ben, ...

The good times elevate even more when you factor in the stupid fun of co-op, particularly if you do literally Force lift your friend over a chasm and let them drop. Genuinely humorous games are in painfully short supply in our medium, and Skywalker Saga is one of the rare few that can make you chortle like Salacious Crumb on red cordial. It also has to be said that the new upgrades system is thicker than a Hutt but roughly about as useless in places. Even better, there are a host of ludicrous bonus modes to chase, like “pew pew” sound effects, baguette sabers and a universe-wide rave dance. If your pants piece ever gets tired of legging it everywhere, you can always whip out your holoprojector and take to the stars. Quick example: the TIE escape with Poe and Finn gets a five second nod. One of the latter is my personal favourite, a Wandering Wookie who repeatedly Where’s Wallys his furry butt around this colossal universe. Oh, and it’s also worth mentioning that there’s a sprinkle of stealth in here, too. And though you’ll spot a tiny handful of similar gameplay sections and reused cutscene gags, this is very much a page one rewrite of the greatest Star Wars piss-take this side of Spaceballs. That runtime is roughly in line with the prequel and OG LEGO Star Wars titles which spun their respective trilogies out into four hour campaigns each. So yeah, we’re a triumvirate of veterans who really wanted LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga to be a new hope, not another half-baked clone. (Online would have been nice, but it’s somehow gotten the saber chop.) Play this (Han) solo or with “another” as a Force-dyad, and the experience will be relatively the same: slapstick melee/pew-pew combat, mass destruction of property, some class-specific puzzling and simplified jumpy-jump platforming.

Review — LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is perfect for fans ... (Windows Central)

Regardless of which Star Wars trilogy is your favorite, this humorous LEGO retelling of all nine main films will be a hit with fans.

This humor was especially well done in the original and prequel trilogies. This also means that I was able to drive a podracer in Episode 1, even if the level itself wasn't an actual race. One thing that can be mildly frustrating is that if one player initiates a mission, the other will be pulled into it. Among the most notable ones, mission markers and waypoints failed to show up while I was in the vast multilevel Gungan city from The Phantom Menace, which made it nearly impossible to find the specific doorway I needed to advance the story. I had a hard time getting through the latest trilogy with Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren since these movies have never sat well with me. For instance, I upgraded the Astromech Socket Expert skill so droids like R2-D2 can bypass a specific puzzle with just the press of a button. While you do have a health bar, the gameplay is relatively simple and you'll spawn right back into place if an enemy destroys you. There are hundreds of characters and ships but you sometimes cannot unlock them all on your first playthrough, so you'll want to come back to a mission and try it again with different characters' skills. The first time you play a chapter, you have to do it in Story Mode, which means you need the specific characters that belong in that story. I was a little worried that the gags wouldn't land as well with full voice acting, which the older LEGO Star Wars video games didn't have. It takes about 1-1.5 hours to run through each episode on average, and around 13 hours to beat the game, although you can go back and spend dozens of hours collecting everything you missed. As a kid, I had played and replayed all of the LEGO Star Wars games that came out and so I was eager to check out this latest installment.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga review: Fulfill your destiny (Shacknews)

With the episodic Star Wars films now concluded, developer TT Games has returned to a galaxy far, far away with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which ...

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the definitive LEGO Star Wars experience. Encompassing all of the nine episodic films, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga also serves as a greatest hits for all the tunes heard throughout the series. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is undoubtedly the best looking LEGO video game to date. What’s instantly noticeable in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, is how deep of a reverence and care it has for the source material. It’s here that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga delivers as the ultimate LEGO Star Wars sandbox. Continuing the story of Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren, these chapters feel like a worthy sequel to 2016’s LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga being the sixth entry in the LEGO Star Wars franchise, there’s a good deal of content that makes it feel like we’ve been here before. It’s also impressive how in a game that lets you play as hundreds of characters, most of them feel unique from one another. While most LEGO Star Wars titles used human voices sparingly, Skywalker Saga has fully voiced cutscenes and dialogues for just about every character. It’s an impressive final product that celebrates both the cinematic and LEGO history of the Star Wars saga. The Death Star trench run in A New Hope and the Podracing sequence from The Phantom Menace are among the iconic Star Wars moments that feel just as thrilling in-game. Each of the nine films is essentially a chapter in the game, with players having access to the first film in each trilogy to start off.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review - Embracing The ... (Game Informer)

TT Games crafted a massive game that dazzles with its number of unlockable characters, but offers an uneven journey to them.

Despite being periodically uneventful, the Skywalker Saga is a thorough and fun examination of all three Star Wars movie trilogies. Studs can also be spent to enhance skills and unlock new abilities for the different character classes. The bulk of side content, which is a big part of this experience, mostly comes up short, despite delivering fantastic rewards, like more playable characters. You can exchange well-earned studs for clues that lead to character locations and unlocking requirements. While nailing the little moments, the immense scale of the project appears to have been too wide for TT Games to harness, as some of the content is uncharacteristically dull or uneven. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a massive game, consisting of roughly 400 playable characters, nine movies to journey through, and more puns, jokes, and sight gags than even Jar Jar Binks can handle.

Review: Lego Star Wars – The Skywalker Saga is one of the best ... (Video Games Chronicle)

TT Games does the series justice with a revamped formula and its very best Lego game to date…

Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga treats Star Wars as well, if not better, than any iteration of the franchise in history. The only real missing piece from The Skywalker Saga is the lack of levels dedicated to the spin-off films such as Rogue One or Solo, but they’re not terribly missed. Now viewed from a third-person perspective, Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga is a much more mechanically interesting game than the Lego games of the past. There is an absolutely astonishingly large amount of things to do in The Skywalker Saga. While some of the side quests can be short jobs you’ll finish in two seconds, a good few of them are far more involved, and they all have unique, hilarious writing. In order to combat repetitiveness, the actual levels in the game are much shorter than in previous Lego Star Wars titles. But from the minute you begin Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga, it’s impossible not to feel absolutely overwhelmed with the reverence for the legendary franchise.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review - IGN (IGN)

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga provides a series of interplanetary playgrounds that are dense with discovery and entertaining diversions.

The one Star Destroyer-sized blight on my experience with The Skywalker Saga was the bug I encountered that made progressing the story of the prequel trilogy beyond Attack of the Clones impossible. There really is a staggering amount to do in The Skywalker Saga, and despite the fact I’ve spent over 20 hours with the game I feel like I’ve only just scratched the surface – there are seemingly enough collectible LEGO vehicles and minifigs in here to populate several hundred letters to Santa. These open areas are absolutely rife with hidden Kyber bricks to collect by solving various environmental puzzles, and while you do see some repeated challenges across the galaxy – stacking crates to reach Kyber bricks suspended in the air seems to be a popular task no matter which planet you’re on – there are plenty of other fun little surprises to stumble upon along the way. The Skywalker Saga is capable of delivering mindless carnage on a massive scale, like when The Battle of Naboo briefly blossoms into a thrilling game of tower defense, and you gleefully lob balls of energy from Gungan catapults to decimate hordes of Trade Federation droids and assault tanks. With stunning set pieces cribbed from all nine mainline Star Wars films and a surprisingly vast number of iconic planet hubs to freely explore in between, The Skywalker Saga is a brick-breaking blockbuster executed with a goofy charm that had me feeling as happy as a droid in a hot oil bath. If you’re controlling a character equipped with a blaster, you now have the option of taking cover behind walls and other objects to pick your foes off from afar, and can switch between cover positions with the tap of the button.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga review: Focus, Padawan ... (Digital Trends)

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga features a massive galactic sandbox that's fun to explore, but also lacks focus.

TT Games is trying to change the notion of what a Lego game can be. It always feels divided between being an accurate retelling of the Star Wars series and an ambitious galactic sandbox where players can go anywhere as anyone. But like the protagonists of each Star Wars trilogy, The Skywalker Saga has an identity crisis. The Skywalker Saga features many planets and locales that are truly fun to explore. Despite that, all nine films are telling linear stories, and the game is constantly trying to shuffle the player to the next big thing. Developer TT Games appears to have recognized that because Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the most ambitious Lego game in years. This was also unfulfilling as The Skywalker Saga has to rush through each story to include all nine films. These open-ended hubs are all large and full of exciting challenges, Easter eggs, and even full-blown side-quests to discover, and are by far the best part of the game. I chose to play the game in release order, from A New Hope to The Rise of Skywalker. The introductory level of A New Hope does an amazing job at highlighting how much has improved compared to past Lego games. I was disappointed to find that the game really doesn’t do that. That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the new features here. This makes it a perfectly enjoyable Lego title for players who may have fallen out of love with the series and an exciting teaser of where this franchise can still go.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga: The Kotaku Review (Kotaku)

This isn't the first time Lego and Star Wars have been digitally combined, but it's easily the best.

And if, like me, you love Star Wars, the in-joke references to the films and past Lego games are a lot of fun, too. Unlike the past Lego Star Wars games, Skywalker Saga uses a behind-the-back camera angle along with improved, more modern-feeling combat and movement controls. Even bits that didn’t matter in-game, like a small Technic piece used to pop a droid out of its seat easily, were included in the digital ship. It’s a shitty situation and one which TT Games needs to avoid in the future for the sake of its own devs. The end result: one of the best Star Wars games ever made. So, understand that what I’m about to say comes from a place of pure love and care: Star Wars is really silly and dumb.

11 Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga tips for players of all ages (GamesRadar)

If you've played any Lego games before then you'll be familiar with the core concepts of breaking bricks, collecting studs, fighting enemies, and building stuff ...

Once you've got the details for the item (blue entry in the list) you can follow the Track prompt at the bottom of the screen to place a marker on it, which will help you zero in on the location when you get back to exploring.Regular Free Play for individual levels unlocks after you first complete them, and although this lets you revisit and explore you'll be restricted to just the original characters. There's no limit to the number of active missions you can have, so rack them up wherever you can to speed up your progress.9. Use Missions in the Holoprojector to keep track of everythingBy accessing the Missions tab of the Holoprojector, you can see a running total of all the collectibles found and tasks you've completed so far. Focus on Core Upgrades first, for which you have to start at the top and work your way down the skill tree unlocking new Upgrades as you go, and although many of them have three levels available you should stick with just buying one level initially so you can progress through the available Upgrades. When you get down to the second full row, focus on maxing out Attract Studs and Collectible Detector as these will help you collect studs much more effectively while revealing collectibles in your vicinity. With those upgrades secured, there are others for specific classes you can look at to further boost your stud collecting. If you select any character in the Character menu, you can see the cost needed to unlock it, and we don’t recommend spending your studs on rumors for these as most will be found naturally during the main story and side missions.7. Datacards are really usefulDatacards provide you with significant benefits when unlocked, such as boosting the value of studs collected or giving you a sidekick in battle, as well as providing access to a suite of humorous effects you can apply to the game. Going for the Studs Multipliers first will really help you rack them up, so you can pay for more datacards, characters, and upgrades further down the line.8. Chat with everyone to unlock RumorsTalk to any characters you see with a speech bubble floating over their heads, to get new information and unlock missions to complete for rewards. If you're struggling to find a particular collectible or activity then you can expand through the menu levels to highlight it, then purchase a Rumor to help point you in the right direction. If the choice involves constructing one of several builds, you can use one of them before smashing it up to rebuild as the other, so you won't get locked into your first decision.5. Upgrade your abilities as soon as possiblePurchase Upgrades from the Holoprojector as soon as you can to improve your abilities, using studs and Kyber Bricks collected in levels. When you reach these points, try to look as far ahead as possible and gauge which one to take – if you can see one of the options seemingly leads to a dead end, there's a good chance there will be a reward waiting there or a level challenge to complete that you'd overlook if you followed the other route. Studs are also used to purchase characters, ships, and other unlockables, so the more you can collect the better.2. Grab your lost studs if you get eliminatedIf you get defeated by an enemy or are eliminated by falling into a hazardous area, your character will explode in a shower of studs which are deducted from the overall total you've collected so far. Be wary of bright red objects as they explode when damaged, and if they take you out it'll look like they've dropped a load of studs but a chunk of them will be from your own stash, so shoot them from a distance to be safe.If you're worried about losing too many studs by falling into hazardous areas, you can head to the Gameplay Options in the menu and enable Fall Recovery in the Controls section. During combat you may see an exclamation mark on a red background appear, and if you press the Counter button here then you'll not only avoid your enemy's attack, but also do huge damage to them in return.4. Assess your options when given a choice of pathMany of the levels feature branching paths, where you'll need to make a decision on which direction to head in next. You'll earn stud bonuses for higher combos, and you can track your progress with the bar on the right side of the screen – get another hit in before the combo timer bar runs out to keep it going and reach higher multipliers.
