“We know it can be a good race, but even if it’s a bad race I’m very happy because we are doing steps forward and this is just the base, and what I’m happy with is if this is just the pace we are there. “I just need to push from one lap, the tyre consumption is quite good and the pace is quite strong. “One lap we still need to work, it’s very difficult for me because I need to more feeling, I need more confidence, I need to push more on the limit and still I don’t have that. “But I was very happy with the rhythm so I’m very enthusiastic for tomorrow. “And it’s the first one for Aprilia, it’s a very nice moment. “It’s not super important because the points will come [in the race], but for a rider to feel this speed, to feel that you are the fastest one is always great.

MotoGP Argentina: Espargaro 'proud but it's just Saturday' (BSN)

Aleix Espargaro secured Aprilia's first MotoGP pole position in two decades on Saturday for the Argentina GP.

Aprilia I think have a solid combination of riders and also the bike is growing up, so the results have to arrive.” “So if we are able, the two or three riders that we have pace, we are able to push from the beginning and make a fast race. Tomorrow I don’t think I have to analyse a lot the data and the pace of the rest because this weekend has been quite special, just one day of testing. “I’m not the one who have to say if I’m riding in a super high level or not, but I feel good, I feel that I’m competitive. This is improvements of the bike that allows you to be fast and consistent in every track and that’s great for the rider. He told me he had some issues, lack of grip on the qualifying but yeah, I mean coming from different bike, first time here for him in Aprilia, finishing in fifth place is quite remarkable. The level of the bike, the potential of the bike on the wet was better, but on dry I felt that I could fight for the podium in Malaysia and here once again. “In Qatar I felt in the race I was, I don’t know if the strongest one but I felt really, really good on the race,” Espargaro continued. “But I was not fast enough in the middle of the race and I missed the podium. “Yeah, I’m happy, I’m satisfied,” he confirmed, “but sincerely for the rider is nice to be fast on Saturday - because the feeling you get on that lap is always special, is great to do to feel the adrenaline, the speed. “I know it’s not super important because the points will come tomorrow but for a rider to feel the speed, to feel that you are the fastest one, it’s always great. “What makes me happy is that if we are good and we do no mistakes during the season, I have the feeling inside that - I don’t want to talk about top three or championship or whatever but I have the feeling that we can achieve many, many points.

'Doesn't feel good': Miller's 'massive blow'; MotoGP giant hits new low — Argentina Talking Pts.

The same is clear in the riders standings, with Aleix Espargaró leading with three top-10 finishes ahead of Brad Binder, who’s yet to win a race this season, and round-one winner Enea Bastianini, who hasn’t dropped lower than 11th. It’s been a cagey start to the season, with no rider or team yet to establish a clear championship lead. The United States Grand Prix at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas follows this weekend. We are all working extremely hard now to understand what the issues are and to try and find a solution as quickly as possible.” Suzuki is yet to hit its stride so far this season, but it leaves Argentina atop the teams standings after almost metronomic consistency from both riders. At a minimum he would’ve banked a decent fourth place and taken some points away from new leader Suzuki in the teams standings. The Ducati riders are lucky the fight at the front has been so volatile this season. Teammate Francesco Bagnaia showed as much in a badly needed return to form. Miller couldn’t extract grip from his GP22 on the dirty and dusty Termas surface. This new bike clearly has potential, as evidenced by Espargaró’s victory tilt in Qatar, but the Spaniard, leading the team in the absence of Marc Márquez, has been unable to capitalise since. If he’s going to get only stronger from here, Aprilia will suddenly present as a force this season. Not only was his wait long, but it was arduous too.

Inability to pass in Argentina MotoGP a 'massive blow' for Miller (Speedcafe)

Jack Miller has described his performance in the Gran Premio Michelin De La Republica Argentina as a “massive blow”.

“I wasn’t able to force in the braking zones as I normally can. “There’s a couple of bumps going into Turn 1 and there’s the clean line and then the dirty line. “We know what our problems are and thankfully we have a great group of people with us to try and find a solution.” “I didn’t make one single overtake throughout the whole race, simply because I didn’t have the confidence in the front to go off-line or try and force a pass.” If I did, I’d instantly start to lock the front or have moments. We are all working extremely hard now to understand what the issues are and to try and find a solution as quickly as possible.”

Espargaro “proud” of historic Aprilia MotoGP pole after “how far we ... (autosport.com)

Aleix Espargaro says he is “proud” to have scored an historic first MotoGP pole for Aprilia at the Argentina Grand Prix after “how far we've suffered” since ...

“And it’s the first one for Aprilia, it’s a very nice moment. “It’s not super important because the points will come [in the race], but for a rider to feel this speed, to feel that you are the fastest one is always great. “Well, I have to say that especially we made a big step in Mandalika warm-up and the good thing is I found the same feeling from the first lap [in Argentina], even if the grip was very low at the beginning of FP1, I felt the same [as in Indonesia] in the front,” he said.
