But the Lions never went away, fighting back to get within a kick in the last 30 seconds McNamara kicked the next goal for Melbourne after brilliant dibble kick a tight angle before celebrating accordingly. Shannon Campbell kicked a goal at the ninth minute mark to keep some hope in the visitor’s camp. Bannan extended Melbourne’s lead to 17 points after getting on the end of a rebound play, putting through her third goal of the game. The Lions started to tighten the screws in the second term, getting on top of the contest as Davidson kicked a brilliant checkside goal. “It’s been a long journey to get to 50 games. It will be the sixth time that Fremantle and Adelaide have played off against each other in AFLW history, however, the two sides have never met in a final. But Miller considers her debut and the arrival of Kiara Bowers in 2019 after a cruel run with injury as the highlights of her journey. “If we make the grand final and their 50 games come with that grand final, it will be pretty special for them and us,” Miller said. It’s not that long in a men’s sense but if you place it in the scope of the amount of games we play each year, it’s six years’ worth of footy.” And the celebrations of a career that’s been forged in the tribulations of a fledging competition will be all the sweeter if Miller can lead her side into Fremantle’s maiden AFLW grand final.
