The GR Corolla packs more than just a different powertrain relative to its standard-issue hatchback sibling.
Poking out of the GR Corolla's bespoke rear fascia is a model-specific triple-pipe exhaust system. Along with lessening the car's mass, the carbon-fiber roof panel also helps lower the GR Corolla's center of gravity. If you opt for the Circuit Edition, Toyota fits its hot hatch with a bulging hood that includes a pair of vents. The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla not only packs the most powerful punch of any variant of the Japanese automaker's compact car, but it also features the most aggressive design cues of any Corolla sold today. Like 2.4 inches wider than the Corolla hatchback it's based on. The GR Corolla isn't just notably more powerful than your run-of-the-mill Corolla, it's also a good deal wider.
The hot hatchback will be available in Core grade and the limited-run Circuit Edition, the latter boasting a forged carbon roof.
Interestingly, the GR Corolla will also come standard with radar-based adaptive cruise control, a rarity for a vehicle with three pedals. Toyota doesn't skimp on safety tech with the GR Corolla and the hot hatchback comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 driver aid tech. The Circuit Edition rolls in standard JBL premium audio, navigation and Qi-compatible wireless phone charging, but the Core grade can also be so-upgraded with a Technology package. The GR Corolla can also be upgraded with Torsen limited-slip differentials on the front and rear axles as part of the Performance Package upgrade. Measuring 72.9 inches wide, the GR Corolla is nearly 2.5 inches wider than the standard Corolla hatchback courtesy of an aggressive wide body makeover. WIth the twist of a dial, drivers can go from a 60:40 front-to-rear torque distribution suitable for daily driving to a 50:50 split for maximum stability and on to a rear-biased 30:70 distribution for dynamic driving on back roads and circuits.

Australia's top-selling car is about to get a wild performance makeover courtesy of Toyota's Gazoo Racing division. Watch out, i30 N and co.
The goal was to cut the price in lieu of spending money on marketing, thereby letting enthusiasts be its advocates. Bates won the 2008 Australian Rally Championship in a Corolla with co-driver Coral Taylor. The GR Corolla hatch also retains a five-passenger layout. The GR Corolla’s foundation is the existing TNGA-C platform with the regular Corolla’s 2640mm wheelbase. The rear diffuser frames no fewer than three exhaust outlets, one being a centred, rounded rectangle. Toyota stunned when it launched the GR Yaris, sensationally selling the first batch for $39,950 drive-away, equating to a saving in the vicinity of $14,000.
With 300 hp from a turbo three-cylinder and all-wheel drive with adjustable torque split, the GR Corolla is the bonkers Toyota hot hatch we've always ...
Toyota hasn't announced pricing yet, but expect that info to drop in the coming months as Toyota gears up to start deliveries of the U.S.-market GR Corolla later this year. All GR Corollas benefit from increased chassis stiffness thanks to additional welds and structural adhesive, with a weight-saving carbon roof available as part of the Circuit Edition. The GR Corolla will be built alongside the GR Yaris at a specialized Gazoo Racing facility, though the underpinnings of the two vehicles differ. An eight-inch screen with Toyota's newest infotainment system is the focal point of the interior on all grades. While the GR Yaris is based on a European-market car we don't get, the GR Corolla gets just about all of the same goodies, including that boosty, rev-happy three-cylinder turbo. Drivers will have to stay on their game to keep the car on power, as the GR Corolla comes exclusively with a manual transmission. Braking comes from a pair of 14-inch slotted rotors with 4-piston calipers up front and 11.7-inch ventilated rotors with 2-piston calipers out back.
The Toyota Corolla became world's best-selling car mostly because it's inexpensive, efficient and practical. Exciting? Maybe not that.
The base version will be called Core, and a better equipped Circuit Edition will be offered during the first year of production, which is slated to start later this year. The GR Corolla's four-wheel-drive system was developed in and for rally races, according to Toyota. The engine in the GR Yaris produces slightly less horsepower. The car's front and rear fenders extend out from the body giving the car a wide stance for improved handling and allowing for wide performance tires. The GR Corolla has a variable all-wheel-drive system that allows the driver to select how much power goes to the back or the front wheels. No automatic transmission of any kind is offered on the car.
With a 300-hp turbo three-cylinder, a six-speed manual, and all-wheel drive, the GR Corolla makes it easy to forgive Toyota for not giving us the GR Yaris.
That's especially true in the Circuit Edition, which gets a leather-trimmed steering wheel, a signed shifter, suede and faux leather sports seats with red details, and badges on the headrests. The standard setting is a 60:40 front to rear torque distribution, but it can go as rear-wheel biased as 30:70, or put in an even 50:50. However you split it, power feeds to open differentials as standard with an option for front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials as part of the Performance package on the Core (the Torsen diffs are standard on the Circuit Edition). The Circuit Edition clamps ‘em to a stop with red calipers marked with the GR logo. The GR Corolla will be offered in two trims: Core and Circuit Edition. The latter adds a carbon-fiber roof, hood bulge, and larger rear spoiler. To keep the direct-injected engine together at its 6500 rpm max power peak, the three cylinders use jets of oil to cool the pistons, large exhaust valves to quickly vent spent gasses, and a machined intake port for better flow. Under the hood it’s got a souped-up version of the turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder from the Yaris GR. In the Yaris, the engine makes 257 hp.
Toyota just unveiled its most powerful and advanced compact car yet, with performance specs that will blow you (and likely much of the competition) away.
Credit company leader Akio Toyoda, who stated a desire to add passion and emotion to Toyota’s line up years ago, and has followed through with everything from the GR Yaris to the Lexus LC 500 in recent years. Those all come standard on the “Circuit Edition” version of the GR Corolla, along with an upgraded JBL audio system. Toyota also includes its Safety Sense 3.0 system and dynamic radar cruise control as standard on all GR models. If that’s your perspective stop reading right now, because Toyota just unveiled its most powerful and advanced compact car yet, with performance specs that will blow you (and likely much of the competition) away. From there the power travels to all four wheels, with front-to-rear torque distribution defaulting to 60:40, but is easily switched to 50:50, or even a 30:70 rear bias setting, through a dash-mounted dial. Its 300-horsepower comes from a tiny 1.6-liter, 3-cylinder engine using a single turbocharger and direct injection.
The hotly-anticipated 2023 Toyota GR Corolla has finally been unveiled, with the race-bred hot hatch set to storm onto Aussie roads by Q4 2022.
Opposed-caliper disc brakes have also been added to improve braking stability and control, particularly when driving on racetracks. Our car reviews combine multiple reviews into 1, helping you save time when looking for your next car. Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda's reinvention of the company as one that builds fun cars continues.

Japanese car giant Toyota has unveiled its most wild Corolla to date – a turbocharged all-wheel-drive performance car with more than twice the power of the regular hatchback, bulging bodywork, and racing-inspired go-fast parts. As with the Toyota GR Yaris, the Toyota GR Corolla will only be available with a manual transmission – limiting its appeal to hardcore enthusiasts only. A radical, turbocharged version of the Toyota Corolla hatch has more than twice the power of the regular model – and bulging bodywork – as the Japanese car giant aims to shed its conservative image.
March 31, 2022 - The 2023 GR Corolla is based on the Corolla hatchback, not the sedan, but it gets some extensive body changes that differentiate it.
There’s a 6-way manual adjustable seat for the driver and a 4-way adjustable seat for the passenger. A signed Morizo shift knob will also come standard — but only on the launch-year production of the Circuit Edition. The Core is available in white, black and Supersonic Red with a color-keyed roof and gloss-black spoiler. The Circuit Edition comes in white, Supersonic Red and Heavy Metal (dark gray) with a matte-black spoiler. Both the Core and Circuit Edition get many of the same styling cues but vary in their gloss- or matte-black application. Two versions of the GR Corolla will be offered: the less-expensive Core trim arriving this year and the more extreme, limited-production Circuit Edition coming in 2023.
Key elements under the pumped-up skin include a more powerful version of the G16E turbocharged three-cylinder engine that you'll find in the GR Yaris, Toyota's ...
Suspension at both ends is new and closely related to the GR Yaris, with wider tracks front and rear on a modified MacPherson front and double wishbone rear suspension layout. The brake package is also familiar from the GR Yaris, with Core variants running 14-inch front discs and four-piston calipers at the front and 11.7-inch units on the rear with two-piston calipers. Kerb weight is rated at 1473kg, around 50kg up on the heaviest front-wheel drive Corolla, and a fair hike on the GR Yaris’s 1280kg.ToyotaIn terms of styling, any notion that the GR Corolla was going to be a watered down take on the recipe is certainly not the case, with a bold collection of huge intakes, flared wheel arches and aggressive wings changing the otherwise pedestrian Corolla’s aesthetic. As with the GR Yaris, the GR-FOUR all-wheel drive system is employed through three driving modes: Normal, Sport and Track – each featuring the same torque-splits of 60:40, 70:30 and 50:50 respectively. Unfortunately, Toyota UK has confirmed that the GR Corolla will not be available in Europe or indeed the UK, citing that the GR range will always be limited to no more than three models, made up here by the GR Yaris, GR Supra and incoming GR86. Still, there’s plenty to unpack with the new Corolla, including that new tune of G16E-GTS turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder engine that now produces a peak 296bhp power figure – a 39bhp rise over a EU-spec GR Yaris (and 28bhp up on the JDM GR Yaris) which also makes it the most powerful three-cylinder production engine in the world. Peak torque is also up to 273lb ft, 8lb ft up on the European spec Yaris, available at the same spread of revs between 3000-4600rpm.Toyota explains the extra power has largely been derived from a new and distinctive triple-outlet exhaust system that reduces back pressure, but now that UK-based tuners have started to crack the standard G16E’s ECU tune, it appears that upwards of 300bhp is reliably achievable without any hardware upgrades.
Both all-paw hot hatches are set for Australian release in 2022. The German-made Golf is due to land first in April, followed by Japan's GR Corolla between ...
A 60:40 front-to-rear split is used as standard but drivers can switch the ratio to 50:50 or even 30:70 if so desired. The Golf R hatch rips to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds while the heavier wagon takes a bit longer at 4.9 seconds. But if practicality is a priority, the Golf R wagon offers ample levels of practicality with 611-litres of space by default or a massive 1642-litres with the second row folded down. The Golf R uses a familiar but evolved 4Motion AWD system which is capable of sending up to 50 percent of its power to the rear wheels when needed, 100 percent of which can be sent to either tyre to assist with tighter cornering and tail-happy shenanigans via the ‘Drift’ model. Both all-paw hot hatches are set for Australian release in 2022. Toyota has taken a less conventional approach to its engine and uses the same boosty 1.6-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder as the GR Yaris but with the outputs increased to 220kW/370Nm.
The hot hatchback is already a hit — but here are all the details you need to know.
Our aforementioned descriptions are all based on the Core model, which is going to be the Toyota GR Corolla’s standard run model, with fabric-covered sport seats and a black-and-silver color scheme. Many estimates are pegging the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla at $37,000 to $43,000 — but with the current market, just about anything goes. With the twist of a dial, GR Corolla can adjust four-wheel drive performance to fit the driver’s needs. The GR versions of Toyota’s machines come with a widebody makeover — and this means the GR Corolla is 2.5 inches wider than the Corolla hatchback and a 1.5 inch increase in length. The engine has also taken cues from the motorsport world, including multi-oil jet piston cooling, large-diameter exhaust valves, and a part-machined intake port. Basically, GR stands for Gazoo Racing, which is one of Toyota’s performance offshoots (the other one being Toyota Racing Development, or TRD).
Golf R-baiting five-door hot hatch uses a more powerful version of the GR Yaris engine and nabs the same AWD system.
This time, it will be tuned to 220kW of power at 6500rpm and 370Nm between 3000 – 5500rpm. Expect to see the five-door hatch priced at or around $60,000. Golf R-baiting five-door hot hatch uses a more powerful version of the GR Yaris engine and nabs the same AWD system
It's an all-wheel-drive hot hatch with 300 hp destined for U.S. shores in place of the much-loved GR Yaris. Under the hood sits the Yaris's same G16-E 1.6-liter ...
One of the most interesting design aspects of the GR Corolla is the funky triple-exit exhaust setup. And because the car is set to go on sale later this year, that'll happen sooner rather than later. In case you somehow missed it, Toyota unveiled the 2023 GR Corolla on Thursday night.
Allow me to tell you a tale. Once upon a time, there was a practical economy hatchback. It was built by a company once known for performance, ...
Will it follow in the footsteps of the RS, a star that burned so very very brightly for such a brief window of time? But that car never came to the United States. American enthusiasts begged and pleaded, but were shunned for years. The company gave that hatchback an upgraded suspension, a powerful engine, a rally-inspired body, and a performance badge that called back to the brand’s racing efforts.
The all-new Toyota GR Corolla is an incredibly impressive new hot hatch but can it actually take on the Audi S3?
A dial inside the car will allow drivers to change the torque split of the all-wheel drive system. The Toyota GR Corolla uses a 1.6 liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that makes, wait for it… I drove the standard Corolla hatchback and it’s a fine people mover but it’s pretty dull to drive. It’s obviously based on the standard Toyota Corolla hatchback. It’s clear that whoever’s in charge of Toyota’s GR products knows what their doing and this new GR Corolla follows a very similar recipe. First it launched the GR Yaris, which became an immediate worldwide sensation, for its outrageous handling and back-to-basics driving experience.
The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla is revealed; buyers will likely compare it to the Subaru WRX and Volkswagen Golf R.
Performance-wise, it should slot above the WRX and be competitive with the Golf R. In the low-to-mid $30,000 range, it could capture disillusioned Subaru fans who were waiting for a new STI. Move too far into the $40,000 range, however, and the Volkswagen with its handsome list of standard features is hard to ignore. And each is small in stature, slotting easily into the compact category. Moving up the scale, you'll get 315 hp (235 kW) from the Golf R's 2.0-liter four-cylinder. And there's no new STI on the horizon. We're left with the Volkswagen Golf R and the Subaru WRX, two AWD vehicles with vastly different price points that generally appeal to different buyers. The Focus RS is gone.
