REVEALED: The best of the best April Fools' Day 2022 pranks (PerthNow)

From the stomach-churning to the aww-inducing, here's your round-up of some of this year's best (though some may argue worst) April Fools' Day pranks.

“I thought we were going to give the game away, to be honest. Pushing the culture forward, don’t miss out on this #Flexclusive release.” According to The Shovel, an amused Josh Frydenberg “can’t believe” Australians fell for it, and described what is thought to be the longest set-up ever for a joke. “In a stunning new deal, Seven has swooped on the iconic soap to begin a new chapter for the Ramsay Street serial.” In what feels a lot like a Truman Show moment, The Shovel has revealed: “Australia’s Federal government is a joke”. But it is not to be, with an April Fools’ disclaimer at the bottom of the story dealing fans a crushing blow. But reports of the sale of the boatshed are Bulls..t with a capital “B”, so it seems fitting enough. “Neighbours has been thrown a lifeline, heading back to Channel Seven, 37 years after it first premiered on the network,” the article read. The beloved footy star hinted at a return to the AFL in a series of tweets, recruiting a number of cronies to play along. While we were over the moon to hear about the return of the much-loved lime-flavoured Skittles, mixing them with chocolate is a hard no from us. The fact the more childish of us swapped out a word or two from the catchy tune to link the beans with flatulence to impress our playmates is an aside. “We’re excited to introduce this delicious new treat, with M&M’S and Skittles pre-mixed so you can enjoy a chocolate and fruity flavour in one bite,” M&M’s Australia posted this morning.

It is promising that on Friday it is giving away a free pint of petrol with every order, an offer that is possibly more appetising than a pizza-flavoured gin. Air guitar lessons, steak-scented deodorant and a job as a cat ... (USA TODAY)

April Fools' Day arrives with a new selection of crazy, fake products and services to make you laugh – and get attention for big brands.

In a tight used car market, many buyers "are willing to sacrifice style and performance in favor of other attributes: ultra-low mileage, pristine like-new condition, and Barcalounger-like comfort," the company said on its website. "We’ll begin by providing you with a few basic metaphors to describe digital ledgers and the applications that they allow," the site promises. Kotex used the April Fools' Day opportunity to bring awareness to the misconception of "period stigma." And Australian based Lessons.com posted a free "lesson" on how to explain NFTs (non-fungible tokens) to older relatives. While it's a joke that the company is expanding its lessons program for those who don't have musical instruments, the Guitar Center does hope to get you interested in music. “Spend less time ordering and more time on the games you love.” An April Fools' Day TikTok showed an Echo Dot speaker describing a scenario and then emitting the smell of bacon cooking. Yuengling pranked how it could take the shower beer to the next level with "hoppily brewed" Lagér by Yuengling shampoo, conditioner and body wash. But, you are warned, "cooking with Weed Pellets may cause side effects including: severe munchies, uncontrollable giggling, spacing out and increased interest in cartoons and/or Bigfoot documentaries." … The reality is, period stigma is no joke." Companies pretty much took a pass on April Fools' Day in 2020 with the COVID-19 shutdown sinking in. Everyone loves the smell of donuts, right?
