Shannon Campbell kicked a goal at the ninth minute mark to keep some hope in the visitor’s camp. Bannan extended Melbourne’s lead to 17 points after getting on the end of a rebound play, putting through her third goal of the game. It was a scrappy first half as rain poured down at the MCG before the Demons ignited in the third quarter to lead by as much as 17 points. But she failed to convert the set shot as the Lions 1.2 (8) and Demons 1.2 (8) went into the main break all tied up. It's down to the final four in the 2022 AFLW season - Melbourne and Brisbane will be first up at the MCG, followed by Adelaide hosting Fremantle at Adelaide ...

Davidson could have a case to answer for a lifting tackle on Lily Mithen that may rule her out of the last game of the season. After Dakota Davidson scored on the run to fire Brisbane into the lead early in the third quarter, the Demons regained control of the contest. Both teams were hellbent on getting the ball into the open to implement their running styles, but the slippery ball literally played into the hands of the defenders in the low-scoring first half. Melbourne have a chance of being the first football club to hold both the men's and women's AFL premierships at the same time, after the Demons beat reigning AFLW champions Brisbane by just four points at the MCG. Melbourne and Adelaide will meet in the 2022 AFLW grand final after the Demons knocked out reigning champs Brisbane and the Crows held off Fremantle. They looked every bit a champion side late against Fremantle as they refused to allow the ball out of the forward 50 for large chunks of the final quarter.

AFLW 2022: Fremantle Dockers fall short to AFLW powerhouses ... (The West Australian)

Fremantle's 2022 campaign has ended in heartbreak, succumbing to minor premiers Adelaide by 14 points in a preliminary final thriller at Adelaide Oval.

But the Dockers should anchor their expectations in this effort, knowing a touch of class and experience is all that separates them from the league’s benchmark. Fremantle remained within reach of the Crows but didn’t have the class and finals experience in them to ever edge ahead. And the Dockers will watch on from home in Perth, plotting a pivotal off-season after taking a significant step in the right direction.

This was a bruising contest that turned into a slog in greasy conditions following light rain before the start of the game. The Crows secured the right to defend their 2021 premiership and win a record fourth flag with a ruthless 14-point win over the Dockers in Saturday’s first preliminary final. A Phillips set-shot miss saw the bouncing ball seemingly defy physics to land right on the goal line but somehow rebound back into play.
