An impressive rookie season, the Thunder announced that Josh Giddey is out for the season with right hip soreness (he has missed the last 15 games).
“By the time we do a return-to-play with him and get him game-ready, we’re gonna run out of games.” Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remains out but there is no word on if he will play again this season. Here is the coach’s quote, via Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman.
Oklahoma City Thunder rookie guard Josh Giddey ratioed a random on Twitter after tweeting about what constitutes as an MVP.
This basically means that the player that helps makes his teammates better should be the MVP. Which is quite the argument to make considering Giddey’s strength as a player involves passing and playmaking abilities. For those who don’t know, a ratio means that a reply to a tweet vastly outnumbers the likes and retweets, which means that the replied tweet is considered poor by public opinion. Using an old Peyton Manning quote, Giddey said that the most valuable player is the player that makes the most players valuable.
The Oklahoma City Thunder shut down rookie guard Josh Giddey for the rest of the season with hip soreness.
With his first one on Jan. 2 against the Dallas Mavericks (17 points, 14 assists and 13 rebounds), he became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double at 19 years, 84 days. Picked sixth overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, Giddey averaged 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 54 games (all starts). He was the Western Conference’s Rookie of the Month in November, December, January and February. “It’s a tricky injury that’s a little unpredictable,” coach Mark Daigneault said Saturday, confirming Giddey will miss the last eight games for the Thunder (21-53).
The Oklahoma City Thunder have ruled Josh Giddey out for the rest of the 2021-22 NBA Season, marking a close to his rookie year.
While he is ruled out for the rest of the season, he has still made Oklahoma City Thunder General Manager Sam Presti look like a genius for selecting Giddey. Josh Giddey has no history of hip injuries, according to Mark Daigneault, so the rehab process should go smoothly over the offseason. Mark Daigneault called listing him as day to day each day as “unsustainable.” Now, Josh Giddey has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Giddey appeared in 54 games this season with the Thunder, averaging 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game.
Giddey stuffed the stat sheet all season and emerged as one of the top rookie players. He joined LeBron James, Doncic and LaMelo Ball as the only teenagers in history to reach those numbers through the first 45 games of a career. He became the youngest to record a triple-double and was the second first-year player to register three consecutive triple-doubles. On Feb. 1, Giddey hit 500 points, 200 rebounds and 200 assists on the season. Giddey appeared in 54 games this season with the Thunder, averaging 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 31.5 minutes per game. The team shut him down for the following two weeks, but finally ruled him out for good on Saturday.
