Diamonds shooter Sophie Garbin, making her debut in the black-and-white, was dragged after a forgettable opening, but returned in the fourth, replacing Nelson as the Pies sought long-range two-pointers to reel in Adelaide's growing advantage. Collingwood endured an interrupted build-up to the match with coach Nicole Richardson forced to isolate in Melbourne after being a close COVID-19 contact.

Dwan was taken off to start the third term, with Georgia Horjus showing her versatility by shifting from wing attack to her regular 2021 position of goal attack and immediately scoring her first three attempts. Dwan combined beautifully with South African shooter Lenize Potgieter, who reached a milestone 1,000th Super Netball goal early in the first quarter.
