NSW Police prosecutors argued in court today Mr Thomson had a history of non-compliance and a clear contempt for court orders, however, the magistrate granted bail. Mr Thomson also allegedly made a false application for JobSaver payments of $3000 a fortnight, which police said was not approved or paid. The grants were applied for against a demolished cafรฉ which had ceased trading and Mr Thomson allegedly inflated figures and forged his estranged wife's signature, the court heard.

Speaking to media outside court, Mr Thomson said, in relation to the fraud charges, that he did not think that "anything" had been done that was "wrong or inappropriate". He also told the court the AVO breach was not the most serious example and there was no allegation of violence. The court also heard he was paid a small business grant of $15,000 even though the business had ceased trading.
Mr Thomson allegedly used fraudulent documents to receive $25000 from the state government's COVID-19 small business grants.
โIn November 2021, detectives from the State Crime Commandโs Financial Crimes Squad and all Sydney Metropolitan Regions established Strike Force Sainsbery to investigate fraudulent applications made against NSW Government financial relief schemes related to the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters,โ a statement from NSW Police said. Mr Thomson also allegedly signed and submitted a fraudulent document in an attempt to obtain a rent reduction. Mr Thomson allegedly used falsified information and successfully applied for both the NSW Small Business COVID-19 Support grant and the COVID-19 Small Business Hardship grant.
