Two-time Miami Open champion and former world No. 1 Andy Murray will play his opening match on Thursday against Federico Delbonis of Argentina. Murray had a condo in Miami for many years, spends his off-seasons here and loves the conditions. Kyrgios plays Adrian Mannarino of France. She left the court in tears. Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion who spent much of her childhood in South Florida, has slipped to No. 77 after taking some time away from the sport last season as she struggled with mental health issues. Sharma is ranked No. 96. The winner of the Osaka-Sharma match plays No. 13 seed Angelique Kerber in the second round.

How to watch Andy Murray vs Federico Delbonis: Miami Open 2022 ... (iNews)

The former world No 1 remains an elite player in one-off matches but is still struggling to put together strong runs deep in tournaments.

“That’s the thing that obviously needs to change. Murray has four wins against players ranked higher than Delbonis this year and beat the world No 10 (first Hubert Hurkacz, and then Jannik Sinner) on two separate occasions last autumn. “Obviously winning matches and competing is important but there’s a few things that have been an issue for a period of time and I need a bit of time on the practice court to try and change that.”

Miami Day 2 order of play: Osaka, Stephens, Muchova in action (WTA Tennis)

Day 2 of the Miami Open sees unseeded Grand Slam champions Naomi Osaka and Sloane Stephens kick off their campaigns, while Karolina Muchova and Laura ...

After winning 73 matches in 2021, Udvardy has had a less auspicious start to this season: she is 0-6 in 2022 so far, and fell in the first round of Indian Wells qualifying to 17-year-old wildcard Ashlyn Krueger. The No.279-ranked Czech opens against Danka Kovinic, fresh off upsetting Karolina Pliskova in Indian Wells two weeks ago. Also on the comeback trail is former World No.27 Laura Siegemund, who was sidelined for seven months after the Tokyo Olympic Games due to a knee injury. Clara Tauson, 19, has solidified her position as a rising star on tour, but is still seeking her first deep run above WTA 250 level. Stephens is one of only two former Miami champions in this year's field alongside Victoria Azarenka, and the most recent after lifting the trophy in 2018. Top 10 juniors Linda Fruhvirtova and Alexandra Eala both make their WTA 1000 debuts via wildcard.
