Why did Fortnite remove building? (Shacknews)

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 brought in a slew of changes for the battle royale game, most notably the removal of building, a core aspect of Fortnite's ...

Removing building from Fortnite is just the latest spin that Epic Games has put on the battle royale game. (I didn’t mind building in Fortnite Save the World, which I thought was a great concept, because there was a directed point to it. It’s being speculated that Epic Games temporarily removed the building mechanic from Fortnite to test the viability of potentially adding a no-build mode in the future. There’s two reasons that Epic Games removed building from Fortnite. The in-game explanation is that in Chapter 3 Season 2, building has been wiped out by enemy forces and The Resistance needs to fight to get it back. This decision has sparked speculation in the community as to why Epic Games chose to ditch building, when it will come back, and if this is a part of a bigger plan for the future of Fortnite. Let’s dig into all of it. Providing a mode that removes this element would lower the barrier of entry and even incentivise players that bounced off to make a return.

'Fortnite' removes its most iconic feature, and it's a bigger deal than ... (Inverse)

With 'Fortnite' Chapter 3 Season 2, Epic Games has fundamentally changed the most foundational game mechanic, so what does it mean for the future?

Epic filed a trademark for the “Epic Games Megaverse” in February 2022 and collected $1 billion in investment funding in 2021 to support those plans. Seemingly random crossovers with characters from Marvel, Rick and Morty, Naruto, and more are a regular part of each season, regardless of the theme. Fortnite introduced hirable NPCs, dangerous animals, crafting, and a slew of other new mechanics over the last year that fundamentally change the experience. Watching the pros mash buttons to build a zig-zagging spire of scrap metal can be downright nauseating, but there’s no denying that this kind of creative sandbox coexisting alongside competitive survival combat mechanics is a match made in heaven. “To help maintain cover, you now have an Overshield on top of your Shield and Health. The Overshield is your first line of defense: before your Shield and Health take a hit, it’s your Overshield that’ll crack. Essentially, parkour-like movement is now the standard within Fortnite, but building should return as part of this season’s storyline.
