How new Premier's kids stole the show (NEWS.com.au)

As South Australia's new Premier was sworn in following Labor's landslide victory over the weekend, Peter Malinauskas claimed he was upstaged.

He announced on Sunday that he would stand down as the state leader of the Liberal Party, saying he took “full responsibility for the defeat. He said there was a discrepancy with SA’s mask wearing and close contact rules compared with the rest of the nation. He told of how his son was playing with Mr Mulligan’s son on the grounds at Government House and they momentarily got lost, needing to be found with the help of security cameras. “This is the biggest gated playground in our state and thankfully they were safe,” the Premier said. He became the 47th premier of the state after being sworn in by SA Governor Frances Adamson at a ceremony at Government House on Monday morning. As the new Premier of South Australia was officially sworn in as the state’s leader, he shared an anecdote about one of his children.

Fitness to govern? South Australian leader shows Albanese the way (The Sydney Morning Herald)

Labor's victory in the South Australian state election has heaped more pressure on the Morrison government just eight weeks from the federal poll.

But this claim is based on just one victory where, on the back of voters’ scant knowledge of him at the time, he successfully sold a benign “daggy dad” persona to the electorate. The closest thing Australian politics has had to a Colin Firth pond scene also played a role. Morrison is now well known to voters. A few stun grenades have been thrown by the Morrison government at the Albanese opposition recently. Twelve months ago, influential Adelaide commentator Matt Abraham said Malinauskas was “putting us to sleep”, and wondered aloud whether SA Labor needed someone new who could engage voter attention. If the national figures maintain their current trajectory up to the election, power will change hands in Canberra within weeks.
