Dean Wallis is recovering in hospital after suffering a major heart attack in regional Victoria.

He had been in the area for work. Wallis played 127 games under Kevin Sheedy between 1987 and 2001. Wallis was rushed to the local hospital in Echuca, in Victoria's north, before being transferred to Bendigo, where he had emergency surgery.

Dean Wallis has been saved by doctors in a major health scare just days after Shane Warne died at the same age.

The body of cricket great Shane Warne arrived in Melbourne on Friday on a flight from Thailand. Eighteen months ago, Wallis unleashed a scathing attack on the culture that had developed at Essendon in recent years. The 52-year-old was in Echuca when he suffered the heart attack, and was rushed to hospital for life-saving surgery.
