Knights stun Roosters to open season in style (NRL.COM)

Five-eighth Jake Clifford was the star for the Knights but it was a team performance, with the back five of Kalyn Ponga (146m), Dominic Young (124m), Dane Gagai ...

- Dane Gagai celebrated his return to the Knights with a try in the 14th minute after Tedesco misread a swirling Jake Clifford bomb that bounced awkwardly for the Roosters captain. "You don't win the premiership in round one but it was important for us to implement some of the stuff we'd worked on. Guys were a bit underdone for playing NRL. We just had too many that couldn't get to a standard we wanted to. The 10 minutes we were down to 12 and they didn't break us ... we showed a ton of resilience defensively": Knights coach Adam O'Brien. Kurt Mann appeared determined to ensure his 150th NRL match was one to remember when he put a big shot on Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves that forced a turnover and was then combined with Adam Clune and Kalyn Ponga to engineer a try for winger Enari Tuala. The try also featured a big don't argue from centre Bradman Best on Roosters centre Paul Momiroski and a flick pass to Tuala that will feature in highlight reels for the rest of the season. - Kurt Mann forced another Roosters error with a heavy shot on Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and the Knights capitalised in spectacular fashion, with winger Enari Tuala scoring in the 32nd minute to give his side a 10-0 lead.

'Won't be happy about that': The silver lining amid Tigers' major blunder: 3 Big Hits.

He wants to stay at the Melbourne Storm long-term, looking for a possible six-year deal. But no surprise Wayne Bennett is supposedly interested in him at the Dolphins,” Fox League reporter Jake Duke said. And when you come off the bench, you’ve got to make a difference. “There’d be a lot to take out of the game for the Tigers positively,” Benji Marshall said. “He almost wasn’t out there, and with guys like Jesse Bromwich missing, and some of the guys they’ll be missing next year, this guy will be a massive factor for the Storm this year, and for years to come.” “Our ruck has sort of been decimated. “Jahrome Hughes, such a superstar. “He was playing a bit of fullback for the Storm, and then Craig Bellamy made the move late 2019 - he bit the bullet and put this man in the 7 jersey, and the rest is history.” “When you’ve got so many stars out... “The Storm worked very hard to get him that exemption to get him back in the game, and he’s made a massive impact already, showing how valuable he is to this side. Hughes scored one try and made the break for Xavier Coates, on his 21st birthday, to put his side in front for the first time with a try 13 minutes from time. A distraught Smith eventually returned to the sideline holding his head in his right hand with his left arm in a sling.

'Pulling guys out of games without any symptoms': Robbo questions ... (Fox Sports)

'Pulling guys out of games without any symptoms': Robbo questions NRL's new concussion rule.

“It’s frustrating in the moment. “This is a weird one for me, there’s no doubt that Radley comes in and has obviously a whack to the head and doesn’t feel great but the Roosters physio comes out and does a test, he stays on the field but has Hannah reported it was actually the medical expert in the bunker that said this was a category one and Radley needs to come from the field so I know that they’ve put in a medical expert in the bunker to rule out teams looking after their own players but it’s really hard to see how that can be sort of judged.” Cronk told the panel. “So for them to go category 1 instead of category 2 was tough for us. “They have direct communication with the refs so the bunker in this case has identified Victor Radley’s incident as a category 1 that’s the highest rating possible, he will not return to the field of play and as a result the Roosters lose an interchange for the rest of the game.” “If he has to come off for concussion we had a scrum in the meantime and we still didn’t take Radley off at that period, it’s a strange one.” They don’t have any symptoms at all.

"It's frustrating but I agree with what they've gone to. Robinson pinpointed a few guys "being a bit underdone playing NRL" due to the injuries the squad had in the off-season. We were well-beaten," Robinson said.

A fend and flick pass from Bradman Best put winger Enari Tuala over for the Knights' second try in the 32nd minute to make the score 10-0. Their cause was not helped when versatile lock Victor Radley was placed on report for a crusher tackle in the 23rd minute and then went off in the 25th minute for an HIA. The Knights scored four tries themselves and if it had not been for a late four-pointer to Paul Momirovski, it would have been a complete humiliation for Trent Robinson's Roosters. The Roosters were restricted to just one try in their defeat at the hands of the Knights. If not for Hughes and a dominant 10-minute period in the second half, the night could have been a lot worse for the Storm. Trent Loiero could find himself in trouble for a cannonball tackle that felled Luciano Leilua early in the first half, with the Storm forward lucky not to be sent to the sin-bin.

'Strange' NRL call leaves everyone confused (NEWS.com.au)

Roosters enforcer Victor Radley has taken just 25 minutes into his 2022 season to be at the centre of controversy - but this time he's not at fault.

Surely Radley has to go off for at least a check after that clash? “This is a weird one for me, there’s no doubt that Radley comes in and has obviously a whack to the head and doesn’t feel great but the Roosters physio comes out and does a test, he stays on the field but has Hannah reported it was actually the medical expert in the bunker that said this was a category one and Radley needs to come from the field so I know that they’ve put in a medical expert in the bunker to rule out teams looking after their own players but it’s really hard to see how that can be sort of judged.” Cronk told the panel. Valemei scored a try after his incident last night, then was taken off.
