After sacking Nikita Mazepin last week, Haas has turned to Kevin Magnussen to fill its vacant seat this season.
Meanwhile, team principal Guenther Steiner had this to say: “I’m delighted to welcome Kevin Magnussen back to the Haas F1 team. Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. I really have to say thank you to both Peugeot [which signed him for Le Mans 2022] and Chip Ganassi Racing for releasing me promptly – both are great organisations.
In the end Haas dismissed both its drivers in favour of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin, two rookies who could inject funding into the team. Watch every ...
Ferrari reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi would have had to have been extricated from Formula E midseason and would need more adjustment time to what would have been a new team. It’s easy to understand his position after a career of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The sport has implemented not only a cost cap to control expenditure, levelling the playing field, but also development equalisation to help bring lower ranked teams up to speed — Haas will have 64 per cent more aerodynamic testing time than Mercedes this season, for example. Second, team owner Gene Haas has been reluctant to stump up more cash to continue building the team. But Magnussen had contracts not only with Chip Ganassi but also Peugeot for its high-profile return to the World Endurance Championship this year. Magnussen by no means retired at the end of 2020.
Haas have confirmed Kevin Magnussen's return to the team for the 2022 Formula One season following the sacking of Russian driver Nikita Mazepin.
The statement said: "Uralkali has been for many years contributing considerably towards global food security and providing significant assistance to a whole range of sports associations, organisations and events both in Russia and abroad. "Formula One is a dangerous sport and you have to rely on the team you are working with. "But I absolutely do not see Formula One as a closed chapter. "I was very disappointed with the way it was handled. I didn't imagine the situation of losing my drive would happen so soon. I've been briefed as much as possible on the development of the VF-22 and the potential in the package.
Magnussen, a veteran of 119 grand prix, last raced in motorsport's top class in 2020 for Haas before being dropped.
"When looking for a driver who could bring value to the team, not to mention a wealth of Formula 1 experience — Kevin was a straightforward decision for us," Steiner said. "I've been briefed as much as possible on the development of the [car] and the potential in the package," he said. "I was looking in a different direction regarding my commitments for 2022 but the opportunity to return to compete in Formula 1, and with a team I know extremely well, was simply too appealing," he said.
Kevin Magnussen has completed a stunning return to Formula One with former team Haas as Nikita Mazepin's replacement.
"I was obviously very surprised but equally very excited to receive the call from Haas F1 Team," Magnussen said in a statement. Kevin's immediate availability means we can tap into him as a resource for preseason testing alongside both Mick Schumacher and Pietro Fittipaldi. "I'm delighted to welcome Kevin Magnussen back to Haas F1 Team," Steiner said in a statement.
Kevin Magnussen is to make a sensational return to both Formula 1 and the Haas squad in 2022, following the team's decision to part ways with Nikita Mazepin ...
There’s work to do but I’m excited to be a part of it. “I’ve been briefed as much as possible on the development of the VF-22 and the potential in the package. We’ve enjoyed a solid relationship and our positive association remained even when I left at the end of 2020.
Magnussen was set to race in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Team Peugeot TotalEnergies in 2022 alongside more races with Chip Ganassi Racing in ...
Pietro Fittipaldi will have the first half day as the reserve driver, with the Brazilian missing out on the seat despite having been touted to race for Haas in 2022 by Team Principal Guenther Steiner. I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car in Bahrain.” “We’ve enjoyed a solid relationship and our positive association remained even when I left at the end of 2020.
